powerchip?
powerchip?
Anyone know about these guys?
www.powerchipgroup.com
They are the only ecu upgrader available to me in Australia, and I'm wondering about their rep.
I don't like the fact that they seem only able to chip the car rather than remap it....
opinions?

Re: powerchip?
vrp uses them exclusively. They can remap the ecu as well. I have powerchip tune.. on my c32. The butt dyno saids feels a lot more powerful with tune and code3 pulley. I got it when they had ther $300 special. I havent had any problems. i still havent got a dyno yet. i'm planning on getting a dyno soon. i'll post the results when i do.
On a side note, my friend did run into some lean issues with there tune, but he has pulley, headers, intake and exhaust.

Re: powerchip?
Actually VRP just stopped using them because VRP and Vadim split companies. See thread in E55 section of MBworld. Vadim will continue to use them though. It's not a chip but a flash like everyone other tuner out there. I agree find a tuner who can upload a flash and just have whichever tuner you like email you the tune. Not sure who would agree, since it basically is giving their map away.
Re: powerchip?
here the summary for the lazy
Dear Fellow MBWorld Members,
VRP has undergone a few changes recently which I wanted to share with you.
Tuning
-------
We have had a great relationship with Powerchip these past 2 years but as VRP has been progressing so have our needs. We have decided to part ways with Powerchip and head in our own direction on the tuning side.
Over the past several months we have been testing and refining our own tuning files for the 55K and V12TT cars. On the V12TT side, all of the VR825 kits are running internally developed tunes.
On the 55K side, we have been experimenting with some really nifty hand held programmers. If the rest of the testing produces favourable results, they will soon be available for end users to purchase and self-flash their own cars. Tuning files of different calibrations will be available and the end-user will be able to switch between them at will.. No more shipping ECUs around. More details will be posted very soon.
VRP / Vadim
-----------
Vadim and I have been working together on VRP for a while now. At the same time, Vadim has been providing design and services to other companies under his own brand (Fedor Dezyn). As both businesses continue to grow we decided it was best for each company to represent itself under it's own brand so that there is no confusion. We will still be collaborating on projects going forward but each company will have distinct product lines.
Fedor Dezyn will continue to use Powerchip as a software provider.
Vadim and I want to thank everyone for all the support we have received over the years and we both look forward to a conitnued relationship with everyone.

Re: powerchip?
I Had a powerchip gold in my vl commodore a few years back. did a good job and had the same issue with the re-solder. But I'd make all the changes you want before you replace the chip to get the most from it.
Good for straight forward mods, headers, exhaust and fuel change, not suited when a dyno tune is needed.. $1100 aus is a big wack

Plus if you can find a good electronic technican/engineer who can do this for you; then you can have him order a new chip and have it flashed with your factory tune. Then plug the new chip into your ECU, drive around with it - and if all is OK - ship that chip off to your tuner and keep your OEM chip to drive around with while you wait.
Also, if you have problems with the tune, or need further "tweeks", or it just plain gets lost/damaged during shipping - your still 99.99% factory (except the added chip socket).
Just an idea
