Default SRT-6 vs. Boxster S

Oh yes another win for us.

The other day I was on my way to work and I saw this grey Boxster. So I got up behind him and he saw me right away. The first light side by side he goes but not full hearted, and we both are waiting for the other guy to gun it nothing happens.

Light traffic so I pull in behind him so we don't get separated at the next light. Nexr light three lane road he is first in line in the center lane. I am right behind him. Now he is feeling cocky, he looks in the mirror and nods at me, so this time I know he is going for it. To his right some kid in one of those Honda roadster thingies sees all this and is aware, now he wants in, starts revving. Light goes green, he starts out slow we get to about 30 and then he guns it. Big mistake!

We all know that from 30 pretty much no car will take an SRT-6, I have to brake to keep from tapping his bumper, then I gun it again and go around him we both let off at 80 but I was 2 car lengths in front.

While all this is going down the Honda went for it right out of the gate. The Boxster is still playing games until we get to 30 so the honda is out there 5 lenghts or better we both pass him around 70 mph. It was awesome! my first real race in the SRT (just bought it in JAN)

I pull in to work just a 1/2 mile later the boxster pulls in he is going to the Dr. office next door to my restaurant. Rolls by and asks what I had done to my car. Other than the secondary cat delete my car is stock. He shakes his head and parks.

I wanted to ask him what he paid for that car. I decided to win gracefully and not boast.

Going Wednesday for more exhaust work getting dual pipes from the resonator back to two magnaflows with my stock tips back on. After that CAI. I will try to get a sound clip up when it's done. I know a lot of you went with a complete muffler delete into a "Y" with the stock tips. I thought that was a little too loud, so I am going to try a similar set up with those short Magna flow cans, dual to make better sound.

Great story. You will find that this is the reaction of most people no matter what they drive. What difference did the rear cats make if so, how is that measurable? I know some on here removed them but I don't recall any real numbers to promote the change.

So funny you bought this up...I raced a BMW Z4 and a Boxter S yesterday. Here is the owners post on another forum we are on.

"Just for the record, he murdered us... the SRT-6 was very clearly the superior performer in our runs, in all torque and hp ranges. As for the origional race idea, Imaj Solstice GXP vs. BMWAgee Z4 3.0Si (and now Carlos Porsche Boxster S too) how does next Saturday sound?"

I doubt the rear cat delete produced any gains. To me it feels the car pulls a little harder on top of the rev range, but I have no proof of it. I did read some thread about some guys in Florida did a resonator and rear cat delete before and after that suppossedly made an extra 12 hp on the dyno. To be honest with the only difference is a little more exhaust note. I did it in anticipation of my next exhaust mod, I only have so much available cash to throw at my car, so I am doing it in stages. Unlike some I am a working stiff.

Same here. There are a few things on my list and I have been buying some time. It is mental thing but I lost so much in my 401K that I feel guilty spending much on it right now. On my list is tires, guage pods, possibly side skirts and a few others.

Hey guys I said, "pretty much no car" Which implies that there are not too many cars on the road form day to day that can take the SRT from 30MPH and up. I think thats a fair statement.

we all know a Boxster S is slow and has always been the butt of many porsche owners' jokes...... has more in common with the new beetle.

Hey Riot!,

Yeah I know about the Superdupernapertroopers. But fortunately they all bring thier action on the side to the restaurant, so I made it a point to introduce myself and then politely point out my car to them. So if you get overlooked by them in the near future they might be thinking your me.

I'm going to Euro tomorrow to get my exhaust done, I will be there at 10:00am That will be your last time to hear what it sounds like with the secondary cat delete. After tomorrow it will sound completely different.

Slow compared to an SRT6, yes.
Slow compared to a Toyota Prius, no.
Anything in common with a New Beetle, no.

Porsche never designed the Boxster with the Streetlight Drags as its primary purpose in life.
The car was designed to flick itself through mountain roads with supreme confidence.

Being the owner of a '98 Boxster with ~82k miles on it, I can say that there are few other cars that are as confidence inspiring up here in the mountain roads of Colorado. That includes Bat's '08 Crossfire Roadster.

At the street light drags, our two cars are evenly matched, with her car barely eeking out the early lead, but the Boxster pulls like a champ, and the lighter weight reels the XF back in pretty quick. We have lots of fun taking both cars out for a spin, that's for sure.

But comparing a Boxster S vs an SRT6 isn't really fair in the sense that the SRT6 is starting off with a 50 hp advantage with the power it puts to the ground, and adding a supercharger to help the engine ramp up to full power just about instantly.

You want to have a fair comparison?
Track both cars at an autocross track.
Lets see if pure brawn can beat a light weight, agile car.
Nothing but pure fun, in my opinion.

BC.

Bladecutter-
Your missing the point no one is saying the Boxster is a P.O.S. I like them a lot I almost bought one! I found the SRT and got that because I feel the Boxster is too common. Everyone has one, SRT's are few and far between.

Anyway the point is that no one really knows what they are up against when we pull up next to them. It is really fun and exciting when people get toasted when they were certain they were going to blow the doors off the little Chrysler. I love the fact that no one really knows what the SRT is capable of until they get smoked by one.

Is was not a apples to apples race we all know that. I don't think anyone is taking anything away from the almighty Porsche. Including myself. I just like smoking them with my little $16,500.00 Chrysler! (Yeah I know I got a deal.)

The new Boxter S is putting down 315 hp and with their lighter weight, I would love to own one of them! I can see myself carving a lot of nice canyons with one of them.

Porsche has always excelled in handling. I'm sure it has alot to do with the twisting/winding roads in Europe. We don't have that many here, so it seems like drag racing is what alot of people want. I personally would love to take a Porsche for a ride in the mountains, would be a blast.

Lol the boxster and boxster s always get rave reviews for their handling and the new ones make good power. I think they are great cars, very nice looking too.
