Default My encounter with a 6.0 GTO

Being an old Pontiac man I've always wanted to race one. This guy had some wicked sounding exhaust so I know he had at least one bolt on and I coulda swore I hear a hint of a cam when I finally caught him at a light. So its's a six speed so I know my best shot is form a dead stop. Light turns green and we go. It was ugly. For him. His loud exhaust and all ,he was spanked. I'm in shock as my car is still bone stock. I had the t/c off and put in in 1 and let it do its thing. I was at 90 when I let off, thats plenty fast enough since it was over anyway. So of course he wanted a roll, he was going a little to fast for my sweet spot and I'm sure he was in his so I held out until he slowed enough to get beside me.I knew he would cause he really wanted another shot having a bud in the car and all. So from a roll I pull him at least a car but as we pick up speed he does slowly pull up but by then it was all over once again. I turned off quickly due to too much attention from that loud exhaust had me nervous about the cops. Made my day. All I could think was damn what if I had a pullley and a cold air intake....what if????????????

Sweet. Nice one.
He is probably posting somewhere that he got spanked by a lowly Crossfire.

The last time at the track I ran a GTO twice. I have no idea if it was the 5.7 or the fast one but it was pretty clear who had the faster car. I killed him at the line the first time so I wasn't sure how fast he was. The second time I could see him in the mirror and he was slowly being left behind. Its always fun to hear how fast your car is but you always wonder what would happen with you driving. Now you know. The cloud is high, is it not?

those things are quite heavy. 3800 or something. LS2 (6.0) is definitely a sweet motor, but the car is just too heavy. i pull really hard on stock ones.

Don't worry, his buddy is posting that he got spanked. Losers never tell.

And as fast as the CAI and pulley would have made your car, isn't it even more impressive that you can say your stock Crossfire beat a GTO with mods?

I use to love racing guys with headers, lock up converters, valvebodies, Holleys, cams etc. with my AMX. After I'd beat them, they would pull up beside me and ask what I did to my car. That's when I'd tell em it was all "stock" and the look on their face was priceless.

Forgive my ignorance, but what in the HECK is an "AMX"

and why does it keep coming up on these forums?

CliffsNotes answer, it's a 1968 Crossfire.

hmmmm...... seems quite the stretch.

using very 'little' numbers that make 'BIG' differences in engine/mechanical terms. not to mention an 'AMX' likely didn't have an SLK mercedes chassis.

very cool little car though!

I doubt the guy you raced knew how to shift properly. My dad has an '05 6 speed LS2 GTO. Stock for stock his and my car are very close, mostly a driver's race. I need to go to the track with him sometime.

J-Fire all I can tell you is they perform exactly the same (to 100 mph), except for length, nearly every demension is within 1 or 2" of the other, they weigh within 50lbs of each other, braking is the same, and over all manuverability is incredibly similar, as is handling and road holding capability (with the same sized tires). Basically the Crossfire is a better, much more refined, modern version of a car American Motors built 40 years ago, that's all. Of course it's only my opinion,
Nobody ever said it had a Mercedes chassis.
You didn't even know what the car was, so it's safe to assume you've never been a passenger in one, let alone actually got to drive one.
I've owned mine since it was brand new, so I think I may have enough experience with it to make the comparison to my Crossfire that I've owned for the last 4 years.
Another Forum member, AMX1397 has owned over 300 AMX's, and he tends to agree with me as well.
You are correct about one thing, it is indeed a very cool little car.

Well I'm sure in the market now for some mods. I dont want him to pull on me even tho it was slow and after I still pulled him from a roll at the begining.. The guy should know how to shift since he is obviously into racing with the mods he had like the exhaust. I wanted to scream at him, HEY MY CAR IS STOCK!!!! I'm sure he was telling his bud I must be running nitrous

Awesome story, I smoked a guy in a new vette the other day. For some reason I have a hard time getting other cars to race me. I think it's because we have a rather large number of SRT's in my area. There are at least 4 of us on this forum in a 15 mile radius. Not to mention Riots SRT which is the same color and model as mine, and he is in the 11 second club. So I am pretty sure they are all just tired of getting spanked.

just a NW CAI and an inMotion tune will completely transform your SRT!!!
i can attest to that.
i have owned many many cars, and modded them all, and i have NEVER added just '2' parts and got so much freaking power out of them like i did with the SRT6!

plus, the inMotion tune is only $350....

Just so you know L&L'sSRT-6, (and I think I speak for many a NA owner here) we appreciate the "trickle down" aspect of all those SRT wins.
