Default Best way to "launch" the SRT6 ?

I wasn't too impressed with the SRT6 when launching it with the tranny in "D", but if you launch it buy putting it in first gear instead, and let it auto shift it seems to be MUCH faster with crisper shifting.

I guess this is normal ??

i have found this to be true as well! especially with a new tune, 1st gear will run through a lot more rpm's than when you put it into drive. you can really feel the torque this way.

Yep, its true. Also helps to do a trans computer reset right before.

The other good way to launch one is with a catapult into the ocean. :P

Also, after throttle reset, drive agressively for a bit to train the pedal.
It learns your driving style so that at half pedal it will deliver 40-80% throttle.

For launching, how about this:

I have the same question. I think the only real way to know is practice. What hooks at 8 pm spins like crazy at 9! For me, be real attentive lining up in the staging lane where the rubber is darkest. Brake torque to desired rpm, some nights its 2000 and some its 1500 depending on the tract prep. When its time to go, let off the brake first and after moving a few feet squeeze the throttle down as fast as you can without loosing traction. On my PS2's I need to be moving pretty good before going full throttle or you know what happens. When you get it just right, you will be 2 tenths faster than when you were too careful. But what do I know, I've only been to the track 3 times. But I rewind and replay what happened everyday so I've been down the track hundreds of time in my mind.

Correction: I said trans computer reset. I meant throttle reset.

Without question the auto stick is much faster than normal D. I raced my friends car in D and got spanked by 4 cars, i then used auto stick and im now 1 car behind from the lights. Theres massive gains with the auto stick.

I've tried this, and I thought I noticed a slight uptick in performance, but then again it may well have had a placebo affect as well. When I use it in "autostick" mode it acts like a proper performance car. Auto mode (D/granny mode) is really inconsistent for me, I've had a couple of ricers give me a good run for my money (a four door acura for pete's sake!), but in autostick mode, I doubt that'll be the case unless their HEAVILY modded (Subaru WRX STI would be a good challenge, and might well win, their quick).

You shouldnt have to worry about an STI unless it has a fair few mods, if Evo 8s are anything to go by i can confirm a moderately modded one wil not take you. Most impressive thing about this car is its mid range engine go to 30mph down shift into 2nd with the auto stick and go full throttle, not many cars can keep up!

I ran against a STI and won but only because I got him bad off the line. I ran a 13.07 and he ran a 12.9. He said it was stock but I know better. He was on my rear fender for long enough to worry me.

I can't believe how much fun the SRT6 is to drive in "manual" mode, and starting off in "1" vs "D", it's like a completely different car, really revs up fast. I raced some kind of Acura TL 4 door when I first got the SRT6, started in "D" and it was close, I couldn't believe the SRT6 didn't kick his azz. I was really wondering if I made a mistake buying the car, but now I see indeed I did make a mistake, but it wasn't in buying the SRT6

Hey Cal, do you have a SprintBooster? If not, check out out. it's a little pricey for a little electronic gizmo, but it really wakes the cars throttle response up. Makes the car behave "like it should" with 350 horsies under the hood.

Hey Tom,

I don't have the sprintbooster, but I've read about them here quite a bit. I'm happy with the response if I drive it in manual mode, it really brings the SRT6 to life, whereas before when driving in Auto, the tranny wasn't consistent, and tended to be more in granny mode most of the time (even after trying an ECU/tranny reset).

What I find amazing, is last year when I was in Europe for five weeks I rented a sh it box mercedes (looked like a stretched Toyata Prius) that was about as sporty as a Sherman tank, yet the dam thing had a "sport mode" button on the auto transmission. Why I have no idea, it has about as much of a chance being a sports car as I do beating Phelps in Olympic swimming

Obviously the SRT6 tranny goes into some kind of sport mode when you take it out of "D", but it should've had that button

The sprintbooster does not make your car faster in any way shape or form, just wanted to throw that out there.

A cai, pulley and tune will get you the most bang for the buck if you want to see a big power increase on the car.

The sprintbooster will make your car no faster than a tree air freshener on the mirror will lol.

What if you put 10 of them in the car? I once worked on a M-B ML350 that had not 1................but 10 tree air fresheners hanging off the column shifter.

My understanding is that the sprint booster will just be more responsive, as in right now if i put my foot down the car wont move for a split second where as with the sprint booster its much more responsive and will go the moment you push the throttle. 1/4 times work from the moment your car moves so the sprint booster wont help with that but maybe it would with street races? Thats just my perception of the sprint booster ive never had one though..

you would have to look for the thread but someone posted up after installing the sprintbooster their 60' times and 1/4 mile times were a little slower. Yeah it could have been track conditions that affected it a little (even though it was within a short period of time he did the before and after runs) but it sure didn't make it one bit faster lol.

Actually it would work since it's just an amplifier; kind-of-like a stereo setup. The pedal would be the signal, the first SB would be a preamp and the second SB would be the amp.

But you'd be at WOT when the pedal was halfway to the floor. I bet with four SB in series you'd be roastin' the tires when you put it in gear.

Kinda reminds me of the guitar scene at the beginning of "Back To The Future".

There was a full test done, no faster no slower, just a more responsive feel.
