Default Supercharger = No Intercooler?

Let me preface this post with the disclaimer that I know nothing about cars.

My SRT6 has around 43k miles on it. For the last two weeks, while driving seems normal for the first few minutes of driving (you don't even have to put the throttle all the way down to have your head slam against the seat) after a few minutes even if you floor it and hit the go-baby-go button, it accelerates "without urgency".

From reading this forum, it seems that I am a likely candidate for IC pump failure. Since I have no experience working under the hood, and the Johnson pump seems to require some finagling for installation anyway (or so I've read), I figured I would just go to my local Chrysler dealer and let them find the problem and fix it, and assuming it's the IC pump let them replace it with the same OEM junk that's in there.

A few hours after I dropped it off, they called me and said that while the tech acknowledges that I'm not getting the proper amount of boost, he can't figure out why and says he'll need me to leave the car with him for a few days to find it and do some research and experimenting. I said that I had done some research of my own and asked if he checked the intercooler pump. And they said "Only turbos need intercoolers. Since you've got a supercharger, and it's belt driven, you don't have one."

Does IC stand for intercooler? By extension, does the SRT6 have an intercooler? Is there a way that a complete car noob like myself can easily check the IC pump without taking the whole car apart?

Find another dealer - Pronto!!

The SRT6 does indeed have an Liquid-to-Air Intercooler and a Heat Exchanger and Intercooler pump.

Print this out and tell him thanks - but - no thanks. You'll take your car to a mechanic that knows his stuff.

The Intercooler is 110/2 - The heat exchanger is 110/11 and the Pump is M44.

Good Luck!

BrianBrave beat me to the explanation that you do indeed have an intercooler. I'll just add that in the dealers' shop manuals it is called "Charge Air Cooler" leading to further confusion.

I went through a similar battle where the dealer insisted that it was the IAT sensor. I finally just put a Johnson pump on (about an hour job for anyone with the ability to use basic tools) and solved the problem myself.

Best of luck!

Thank you so much. They all seemed so confident, and the one tech even "got special training on the crossfire." I'll find another dealer that hopefully has more experience with this car.

Keep in mind that there is "special Crossfire training" and SRT-6 training. There's a big difference. And since there's only about 3,000 SRT-6s in existence, it is very rare to find a Chrysler mechanic that is certified in SRT-6 maintenance.
