Poopy weather so Ill cut my hood open Oh boy
I have not started a thread for a while so here goes, I wanna get started now for the Tail of the dragon so that it will be done by then. Windy , rainy so I cant drive the C and cant fly the toys, but I am feeling ancey so here goes. My SPECIAL batteries (0.8 Kilos each and only 4 needed to replace the car battery) are not here so might as well get started on a simple project, for once
I have been doing mock-ups for a while and have made 3 different hood scoops designs, that wont run foul of the VA DMV system. Grabbing the camera and yelling GERONIMO (Bedonkohe band of the Apache), I am off to the garage [sandbox].
Photos for the unwashed masses by tomorrow as progress begins. How will it turn out, well the saw meets the hood now, you and I will find out soon enough. This will be less technical and should be more fun than all the research and design, so Iam looing forward to it ...........ta da.

Re: Poopy weather so Ill cut my hood open Oh boy
Here is some of the thinking that got me here.
I wanted to get more heat out of the engine and the best way seems to me to be to evacuate the heated air after the radiator shell. This will increase the air flow thru the radiator and reduce the overall temperature under the hood.
My choice of cutouts is aligned to evacuate the radiator heat and allow rain to fall away from the motor and electronics.
By having the hood scoop negative, there is no visual impact and no issues with the DMV guyz. Forward motion will cause a suction effect that brings in new air rather than to push in more air that and only dilute the temperatures. Sorta of a no brainer for me on that score, draw in cold air, rather than push in more air.
It MAY reduce the air pressure under the hood and therefore add down force, but that is at least a secondary effect and a freebe if it actually does any thing- Iam not counting on it but its a nice thought anyway.
Even got help from my mom indirectly. I made a pattern and like a seamstress used a punch to locate the edges. Then drew them out on the protective plastic tape for cutting and drilled the punch marks with a 0.030" bit to mark both sides of the hood. If I had some saber blades at home Id have cut the bugger, but left them at the office. First light were gonna see some daylight.
The mock up has been cut and patched several times till I got it to look right to me, HOPE SO.
The paint will have to be checked and custom mixed to give me the right effect and look, that is much further down the road. Getting the grills to look good and not PUT UP will be interesting.
More photos to load up tomorrow, the waldig Gallery will have them posted so that you can browz and I wont go nutz ( a short trip) trying to add 4 at a time to the replys...
ENJOY the weekend, Woody .
