Default Rotex Gold Pads a little noisy?

Just got the Rotex Gold Front pads installed on my 6. I noticed a feint squealing noise when coming to a stop. Not very loud but enough for me to notice it. The guys at Brakeworld told me they'd may be noisy but I have them installed on my n/a Roadster without this issue.

Just wanted to hear from some others with these pads to see if they make any noise? Thanks in advance!

Permatex Disc Brake Quiet should had been applied when installed.

I gotta go with Acrispy on this one. Make sure they coated the back of the pads with anti-squeal. I've never heard a peep or squeak outta mine !

I have the same problem. Prior to instillation I applied 'Disc Brake Quiet'and this worked for about two weeks - the the squeal started.

Mine does it on a slow moving stop. If I stop regular there is no noise.

Did this... twice!! Both times, they were quiet for about a month, then squeeeeek! Now, I'm just used to it.

I was going to install these pads, but I think I would rather have brake dust than brake squeal. I only have to deal with brake dust once a week, but every time I stop?!? I think I am all set with that. Thanks for the heads up!!!

I would much rather deal with a little squeal then having to clean my wheels every 30 miles. Well, then again, the SRT wheels and my new ones are a PITA to clean. The pads keep things much, much cleaner!! Well worth the squealage.

Kim,
You rode in my car when in town recently.
No squeal. It's not a issue in all situations but it's your call.
If the pads are installed with brake quiet and the rotors are resurfaced should be no problem

Yes, I only hear it when coming to a slow stop. I'm glad to hear it isn't abnormal. Oh and YES- I'd trade a bit of noise for the HORRID brake dust the stockers produce any day of the week! Cleaning SRT wheels is no picnic, and it's needed after every other drive.

I just went with the front pads so I'll keep an eye on how dirty the rears get in comparison. PS I went with the Rotex because everyone on here seemed to have them and be happy with them. However there are soooo many other brands, I wonder if there are ones with no dust and are quiet as well.

I have NAPA Ceramic Ultra Premium brakes (part# UP7561X) on the front of mine. Very low dust and quiet. Currenlty listed at $91.99 on NAPA's website.

I got them last May when I ordered new rims and tires. I asked about the Rotex, and the shop refused to install them because they don't come with anti-squeal shims. The NAPA one's where the only ceramic brakes they could find from their suppliers that fit the SRT6.

I think the key here is whether or not you had the rotors resurfaced when you replaced the pads ??? If not and the pads were replaced, could be the source of your squeal. I know it's common practise if the rotors appear to be in good shape but it's better to have a nice clean, straight surface for the new pads to seat on !

Will the fact that I DIDN'T have the rotors resurfaced become a problem? PS I only have 12k on her so far.

I didn't have my rotors resurfaced. I had just shy of 16k when the new brakes went on. I'm over 28k now without any problems. I did have to "break in" the new pads as they didn't seem to have the stopping power as the original brakes. When I talked to the guy that put them on, he said something about maybe we should have turned the rotors (don't know if that's the same as resurfacing or not or if that's the exact teminology he used). He just said to do some hard braking a few times, 45mph down to about 15mph (or there abouts). Worked like a charm!

I always thought breaking them in was NOT braking hard for the first X-amount of miles??? Can anyone cue me in?

Yes...Turning the rotors is the same as resurfacing the rotors

Gary - you are right! Your car was dead quiet. With my luck I would get the squealiest of them all - it would drive me crazier. If they were like yours I would be thrilled!

my Axxis ceramics are loud, but i don't care. its only on rainy or humid days, and they perform AWESOME! plus no brake dust!!!!

i also heard akebono is coming out with ceramics for the SRT-6, and i have used those on about every car i've owned, they perform flawlessly, and with very little squeak. sometimes it depends on your rotors too...

There are excellant posts on this site on "How to (Break In) (Burn In) (Seat)...lots of different terms for the same process....but use your search function to check these out. Brakes are a simple fix, but proper braking depends whole heartedly on the two surfaces mating together ie the pad surface to the rotor and proper break in is the best way to accomplish this perfect match. NO SQUEAL NO BIG DEAL !
