LOL, I have few issues at 27 years.

The car, however, is fun but flawed.

Current list of issues:
IC pump
Rear defrost
Heated seat
Water leak
Power locks
Oil leak
Engine tick
Diff whine
Yesterday the transmission acted up for the first time.

Damn....

What exactly is wrong with the rear defrost? It's just not working.

My Drivers side heated seat doesn't work either, but I never used it anyway.
Definitely go with the Johnson pump if you haven't already.

I watched a SRT6 Coupe sell on eBay w/no reserve this weekend for ~$12,700. It had 52k miles and looked pretty good.

That's crazy!

I can't believe how cheap these go for now, they have to be the cheapest per horse car around.

Wow, at 37,500 I seem to be WAY up there. Either way I still love it. Even after all the repairs

Engine tick? That's common. What did the dealer do to fix it? Just about every SRT6 I've heard has this tick. Mine is starting to sound like a diesel. Most of the noise comes from teh injectors.

They pretended not to hear it, because they're incompetent *****. Most of my previous cars (Japanese) also had a light tick, usually at idle from HLA clatter or injectors opening.

This is louder and happens under acceleration. I've read some previous threads and some folks have had their motors replaced due to faulty guide pins.

I guess there's a warranty if it blows up.

You guys don't do much driving, do you? I have just over 69,000 miles on my SRT-6 coupe. Of
course, I've been driving as my daily driver for nearly 4 1/2 years now (bought Oct. '04). Though
I've had a few issues over the years (heated seats, IC pump x 2, idler pulley, and a couple of
cosmetic issues due to crap people have left in the road) this car is still running very strong. I've
still got 2 1/2 years (or another 31,000 miles) left on the extended warranty, so I'm still happy as
a clam in mud. That tick from the engine has been there since day one, and does not appear to
have worsened over the years, and I only hear it at idle (when the stereo is turned down ;^).

I bought this car for several reasons. First , and foremost, was as a road warrior for doing battle
in rush hour traffic. Atlanta rush hour is awful, and there are a lot of jerks out there who do real
stupid stuff when you try to go around them. Such as driving real slow in the left lane in heavy
traffic, and when I would get an opening to get in the next lane to pass the slow poke, they will
accelerate to keep you from passing until you catch up with traffic again, then they slow back
down to below the speed limit after you have to drop back in behind them. With this car, this has
not been a problem, as I'm past the jerks before they can react.

Second, this car looked so much better than the S2000, GTO, Solstice, 350Z and all the other sporty cars I was looking at. Plus, it will out accelerate just about all of those. G35 was never in
the running as I wanted a two seater. Yeah, the 350Z has a back seat, but not one you can really
put people in (except small children). When I was a kid, my old man was in the car business and
I really liked drawing pictures of the various cars he sold. I also liked to draw pictures of cars I
created in my mind. The Crossfire looks almost exactly like the car I imagined and drew most
often.

Third, It's just one bad-assed car at half the price of comparable bad-assed cars (stock). Anyone
can mod any car, but stock for stock, this car, hands down, was the best bang for the buck, even
with the $41K price I paid. Yeah, lots of people are driving these for a lesser selling price, but while
they were drooling, I was tooling. I truly believe I've gotten my money's worth, and the next several
years will just be gravy.

My goal is to put as many miles on this car as I did on my previous vehicle (250K miles) and
then replace the motor and do another 250K miles.

Coyote (loving the feeling, loving the driving)

Coyote, thanks for the thoughts on your SRT experience. Most of us could probably get 250K out of our cars if we take care of them. They are Benzes underneath afterall. I do worry about expensive parts, though. A $5K supercharger would total these cars at some point. Good luck on your next 69,000 miles.

Absolutely, I think I can get that kind of mileage out of this car, even though most times I drive
it like I stole it. With proper maintenance, care and feeding, this platform should last a very
long time.

I can certainly see your point about the cost of some (most) of the parts on this car, but I think
a lot of that goes to how one thinks about one's car. For me, a few thousand dollars to replace
a supercharger is cheaper than a couple of tens of thousands to buy a new car. As for the
failure of a major component like that totaling the car, at some point, I think that letting
someone else place a value on my car makes no sense. But, then again, I bought this car
to keep. I have no intention of ever selling it. So whatever value someone else may ascribe
means very little to me. So resale value, though important to many people, is not something
that I would be taking into consideration should a major component of the drive train fail.

My goal is to drive this car until the wheels fall off or the motor fails, and then get the wheels
repaired or install a new engine. To that end, I've already started a savings account where
I dump a bit of money each payday so that I won't have to worry about how I'll pay for those
repairs/replacements. I don't ever see myself using my SRT-6 as a trade-in.

Anyway, thanks for the well wishes. I'm gonna do my best to enjoy everyone of the next
69K miles

Coyote

hmmm...let's see. bought new old stock srt-6 from small calif 5* chrysler dealer 1 year ago with 320 miles. faulty map sensor and trans adapt. were replaced before i took delivery. mobil1 oil change (wear item) and cupholder were only issues i've had all year. everything works perfectly. no complaints, no dealer drama. i'm looking to buy another one just like it, different color because my wife loves the fricking thing and i've had toyota-like reliability from it. maybe its the weather...

Well, mine just hit 71,000 the other week. Problems? Well, it barfed its tranny oil on the garage floor from the sensor plug that seems to fail on most mopar transmissions-$12 and 30 min. on my back. The TPMS light stays on all winter (and, yes I've done absolutely everything to adjust the pressures to compensate for temp.) I've replaced both headlight assemblies due to fogging and glued those fog light reflectors back on. That's about it.

Mind, I bought it with 49K and have no receipts from the P.O., so it may have had everything but the lighter replaced before that. I do know there's a Bosch intercooler pump still in it that looks as weathered as everything else in the area, so not all of them have failed (yet).

Its my daily beater (50 miles round trip), although I try to park and cover it at least a day a week and exercise one of my "old" cars.

Don't be afraid to get out and drive these things, people! They are NOT fragile little Ferraris that need $5000 overhauls every 25K! If you're waiting for them to be worth 100K in a few years you've been watching too much Barrett-Jackson! My paint and interior still shine like new, although it may have a few more "road badges" on the nose. It wears those with pride!

See you at the Dragon!
