test drove an srt6 today
Beautiful car well maintained at the dealership every 3 months or so according to the carfax. And of course the salesman tells me that it was owned by an "elderly couple". These guys never quit.
My question is when I floor it and it shifts between first and second or maybe 2nd and 3rd it is not the smoothest shift I've ever felt. It is almost like everything shuts down for a split second and then takes off. I'm not looking for a race car and won't likely be really hard on this car, but want to make sure that nothing is already broken. Is this typical?
Second question, this is a certified used car so it has a 7 year 70k mile drivetrain warranty. Is this transferable? As this was sold as a Daimler/Chrysler vehicle and is mostly Mercedes will a Mercedes dealership honor the warranty if Chrysler goes under?
Las one of these cars I looked at was a convertible and the top wouldn't go down. Salesman tried to get me to buy it like that using the argument that it was under warranty. I refused and said get it fixed under warranty. They did and then rose the price $1,000 saying it wasn't covered even though the car only had $10k miles on it. so I am a little concerned about Chryslers willingness or ability to properly service these cars. But mostly I just figure car saleman suck and want to beleive everybody out there is a sucker.

Re: test drove an srt6 today
What you felt when you floored it was the traction control coming on, You can turn it off there's a switch for this its marked esp.
As far as your warranty the SRT6 doesn't have a 7/70, Chrysler as far as I know never offered it on the SRT6 only on the limited/base models.
And as for Mercedes honoring a Chrysler warrenty, that wont happen. they don't even want the crossfire in there dealerships parking lots. at least in Portland Or they don't.

Re: test drove an srt6 today
Yes, I bought mine with the Chrysler Certified Used 8yr/80,000 mile warranty. Of course dealers generally won't sell an SRT with it, but some do and I insisted that mine came with it. It is transferable, but only ONCE! Yeah, it probably is the traction control coming on or the computer needs to be reset (the tranny learns a particular driving style). Hmmm, I wonder if someone on here is named Steven. If so, should have just bought mine when I had it for sale! Your loss my gain!! Just kidding. I'm glad I didn't sell it. I have 4 grand in goodies on the way!

Yes, turn off TC and floor it again. Just hang on. Don't floor it around a corner with TC turned off. You will end up sideways. They only had 3/36 on SRT. Check to see in service date. That will tell you what you need to know. Regarding convert top. Go into boot, trunk. There is a flap/seperater. This must be folded forward and up. There are two pegs on upper sides that fit into slots. Those pegs must be slide in and locked into place. Top should work. If out of warranty, I suggest buying extended one. You can do search. Numerous threads. I bought from Chrysler. It was the least expensive I found. Plus they have to honor it. They hate dealing with other after market warranties. Not that SRT's break a lot, if they do, it's not cheap.

I can post pictures of my paperwork if necessary. So, yes, they offer it for any car they wish to apply it to. Mine is for powertrain 8 years or 80,000 miles.
Re: test drove an srt6 today
No, it does have a 7 year/70k warranty. But as someone pointed out it is only transferable once. This worries me as this car was at first used as a lease vehicle, then sold as a certified used vehicle with a 7/70. Not sure if I am the 3rd owner or the 2nd owner. Will call Chrysler in the morning give them the VIN and snoop around before making a commitment to buy.
My only worry know is what the people at the dealership are doing to the car. Gave the keys to the concierge at the dealership while I went to pull my golf clubs out of my car to see if they would fit. Turn around to test drive it and he is drag racing it up and down the street!
It might make sense to buy an extended warranty on this car.

Still haven't sold the truck, BTW. I'm about to abandon the thing in a rough part of town, leave the keys in with the door open and see what happens.
Re: test drove an srt6 today
Chrysler dealers are awful. Get an aftermarket warranty and use a trustworthy European mechanic.
Depreciation will be steep, so don't expect to turn around and sell it for much if you don't like it. That said, you're probably going to love the car, so resale won't be an issue.

and mercedes does all the work on my car here. in fact, i even got 'mercedes roadside assistance' for my SRT! the service mechanic knows the SLK32amg inside and out, and says he has no problem working on my SRT. my warranty (through private party) works just fine at the mercedes dealership.

1) The Crossfire is built @ the Karmann plant, under the budget and BRAND of Chrysler, using Mercedes parts. It was not built BY Mercedes. I know all about Affalterbach, and Osnabrück. I am fully aware of the 80% parts content. Is the vehicle "mechanically" a Benz? You bet. Is it a Benz? Legally, no. I'm sorry if that hurts your feelings. I didn't sign the paperwork when the companies merged.
2) Using your private-party warranty (In other words, NOT Chrysler OR Mercedes-Benz), you might have struck a deal with the local MB dealership, but as far as the norm is concerned, this is not standard operating procedure. YES, there are a few members on this site that have successfully had MB dealerships work on their car, but your average joe in Smalltown USA might not have such luck. Therefore, I'm certainly not going to erroneously direct everyone to an MB dealership when our car is clearly branded as a Chrysler. Just because SOME people can take a broken blender to Belk, without a receipt, and get it replaced; does not mean that is the norm, and in most cases, attempting to do so would only result in disappointment.
I'm proud you've received such cooperation, as the Chrysler boys seem inept for the most part. But, I don't think you should lean towards the other extreme and simply say,
"It's a Mercedes -- take it to the Mercedes dealership."
I guess under that logic, I should take my daily-driver Buick to the Caddy dealership and demand red-carpet service. After all, my car has the same HVAC ***** as the Caddy.

1) I'm in the auto-industry, I'm realistic, and I'm respectful to those that work on my car. Period. As the PDC accounts guy, I hear horror stories of "pushy" customers. That will never be me.
2) I haven't been to the Benz dealership, because I've yet to own the keys to a Crossfire. So, try again. I'm saving my money with plans to pay cash for the SRT, when the planets align, because I think debt is dumb and I refuse to sink myself in monthly payments just for "bragging rights". When that day comes, doves will be released and life will be glorious. And I might just take a trip to the Benz stealership to put a toe in the water.
Like I said in my first post: if you have aftermarket/private-party warranty, and a silver tongue, you might glean some service from the MB dealership. If so, power to you. If someone employs similar diplomacy and careful warranty planning, they too can achieve your level of success.
But to simply issue a blanket statement of "It's a Benz, demand service" will lead many to disappointment.
There have been far more Crossfire owners leave a Benz dealership with their tails tucked, than those that have left with asses kissed.
My humble observation. I'm happy that you're the exception.
