Default Official Post your Drag Radials/Slicks set up thread

I'd like to make an "official" version of this thread:

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ghlight=slicks

Please post all the stats of the rims you used, as well as the tire size/type. If you'd like to add where you found the best deals on rims/dr/slicks, post that up too!

I know we have a couple of you guys running 17" E-Class rims, etc. Is anyone running a smaller rim on the rears?

Post up!

I'm running 16" E500 rims with Hoosiers 255/50-16. The stock E500 have a 42mm offset and I use 15mm spacers to reuse the stock lugs. Yes, it's the best setup. The overall diameter is the closest to stock diameter of any setup.

Discount tire sells the E500 replicas for around $100 each, unless you can find the real ones like I have. Very light setup. McCormack Tires on ebay sells the Hoosiers for $189 each shipped.

How wide are those 16" E-Class wheels?

They are 7.5" and I run my hoosiers at 15 lbs psi and plenty wide for the tires. I have pics in my gallery. No rubbing issues, I just added the spacers so I didn't need another set of lugs. Normal driving on the way back from the track I run at 35 lbs psi.

Is it ok to wrap an extra set of n/a Crossfire rear rims with a slick or is it too low profile?

For myself I feel more comfortable lowering the pressure with plenty of sidewall. If traction really sucks I can go down to 10 lbs psi and let that sidewall get wide with no worries.

I wouldn't do that on low profile hard sidewall DR's. Just my opinion. Now MDSRT6 did run the same hoosiers on his stock 19's and had plenty of success. Not sure how low he lowered the pressure. I can tell you from experience I have ran qualifying passes at 35 lbs psi when the track is prepped nicely and still cut 1.7's 60' times. For consistency I always have my pressure around 15psi.

When I drove the E55 which had Nitto 555's, I lowered them to 17 psi and ran an 11.88. I don't recommend doing that very often.

Are you guys finding that you need spaces no matter what size rim you go to?

I have the Voxx MG 17x8 ET22 wheels with MT 275/40-17 DR's. I did have to buy shorter bolts for them. I have only run them one time at the end of last season. I didnt think to lower the tire pressure at the time. I was driving them to and from the track.

The Voxx wheels I have are perfect without spacers....

I've had success with the 17" VOXX MG's w/20 offset and shorter bolts from Discount Tires for $131 a piece. And for the exact height as our stockers, I have the 275/40-17 Nitto drag radials that I got for $155 a piece from Firestone. A weight savings of 5lbs per wheel.

The stock OD is 26.03, your 17's are 25.66, and my 16's are 26.04. www.tiredirect.com has a calculator that is helpful.

I used to have 275/40/17 Hoosiers, they worked great. Sold them when I thought I was gonna get rid of my car. Recently tried some 265/40/18 Mickey Thompsons but they were too tall for my lowered car. I might try the 225/50/16 hoosiers. They are only 18lbs and would offer better gearing/less rolling resistance. I have seen a couple cars on the net list 11's@120+mph on these so maybe I can do the same. I will be running these on a 16x8 Enkei RPF1 with 17x7 Kosei K1-TS with the skinniest tire I can fit. Will be worth 70-75lbs of weight reduction. I test fitted the kosei and the funny thing is I think if they made them in a 16" they would probally fit. I can stick my finger between the caliper and the wheel. Once the track reopens I can see if it will all be worth it.

how much do those wheels weigh? less rolling resistance/wheel weight makes a big difference.

Kosei are 14lbs and enkei are 15, with the hoosiers and skinny front tires I will drop 70-75lbs.

Those Enkei wheels look great. Much cleaner looking than a wheel with all those bolts around it looking like 4X4 truck wheels. Squirrel Crusher

I'm running 17X9.5 VOXX wheels, 40mm offset with 275/40/17 Hoosier DR's with 10mm spacers. They are less than 1/4" shorter than the 19" 255 OEM's.
