I just got home and I'm still un-packing - had a great time at the Texas Mile - Great event - I hope to see more Crossfires and meet the owners next year. Well worth the trip to spend three days with some great folks.

My thanks to Scott for inviting me, introducing me to his friends (who are great folks), sharing his pit at the end of the mile (great place to watch the cars and bikes cross the finish line) and for providing me my racing numbers - see ya next March Scott!

My best run turned out to be 169.384 MPH - I missed out on the best weather on day 2 - but I still had a great time.

The SRT6 held up fine and surprised a lot of people (but we know that).

Next year I'll go with some drag radials, remove all four cats and muffler, get a 100 Octane tune (I didn't have time this year due to the fender-bender) and I think I could run in the 180's (Vette territory)

Some notes:

The biggest factor mechanically was when the transmission was shifting from 4th to 5th at redline. (this happens around the 3/4 mile mark) The RPM drop off was far more then the other shifts and at these speeds - the last 1/4 mile just zips by - just not enough time recover.

Engine RPM was approx 5,400 in 5th gear at the mile mark.

Speedometer was indicating over 170MPH on my fastest runs (165+ MPH) - not sure if thats just error or where they place the speed gun.

Hottest IAT reading I saw was 163*F on first day when it was 90* outside

On day two and three I never registered above 145* F and always cooled down to under 100* F between runs (45 min to 90 mins)

Brian that wierd shift is because 5th is over drive. throttle plate shuts allowing clutches to engage then re-opens and power comes up. My shift was somewhere between 155-158 on speedo and it takes you by surprize

Congrats! Did you put any ice in your IC tank? That will help as well. I think there is another one in October. I'd love to make that one. I think my tires are only rated to 168mph though.

Brian, these are VERY GOOD IAT results with a 185mm Pulley and a blast up to 270 km/h (169 MPH). I can hardly believe it... Do you have a little secret which you have not told us about your cooling system? Do you log your IATs with the stock sensor and OBD2?

Thanks.

No ice for me - There was a Shelby Mustang who would put a bag of ice on his SC in the staging lanes and then toss in the leftover ice into his reservoir just before launching - his times where no better then the other Shelby's. Plus he was adding hard water to his system and always dripping everywhere.

I would just pop the hood in the staging lanes and let the wind cool the SC down; was cool to the touch before launcing - seemed to work good enough.

I installed an additional IAT sensor near the factory sensor with a 2" digital gauge mounted on the pillar post that has a push button "peak-temp" recall.

The heat wrap I installed around my intercooler really paid off. It keeps the surrounding heat from the SC and engine block from "soaking" it allowing for quick recovery along with having the Johnson pump wired to the ignition switch. I can open the flow tank and dip my finger into the coolant at anytime.

I also separated the HE cooling system from the engine and built a custom "flow" tank for the intercooler when I installed the larger LET Heat Exchanger.

I think I'm going to work on a few more "cooling mods" over the next few months.

Some people told me maybe this would work better than cover the whole IC with aluminum foil? What's your opinion about this?

Thanks.
I used this alumina heat shield I got as a sample - That's the big white roll you see in the picture. They use it in metal foundries as a heat insulator. I used high-temp metal foil to keep it secured around the HE.

If you want, I can send you some - I have a ton left over.
