Default Just got offered...

$14k for trade-in on my SRT-6 with under 16k miles towards an M3. Hahahaha. I laughed my a$$ off. Thank goodness I didn't pay full MSRP for this car when it was new. I paid about 32 grand (considering I traded a G35 Coupe) for this car a year ago, so I still lost my a$$, but I could have lost a lot more. KBB and NADA list trade value around 18k; however, most dealers use "market value" whatever that is. Bunch of B.S. They said, "... the estimate took some time because it is a unique car, but we estimate the value at 14k, so come on in so you can test drive the M3!" lol, no thanks.

Between the numerous Xfire forum's, we probably have majority control of SRT6 owners. We need to band together and start controling selling prices. Not easy, but possible.

I agree. Id love to see the day when all srt6 owners will be members of this website. Kinda like Supra and rx7 guys, only performance enthusiest own those cars. Thats why they have plateaued off in value.

The current M3 is overpriced and overweight. Wait for the CTS-V to arrive in showrooms if you're going for a real sporty four door.

Man, it wasn't a new M3 (sigh), but it was one that I've always wanted. It was a 2006 M3 E46 loaded with less than 10k on the clock. Here is what I replied when I learned of the offer:

"Thanks for checking, but this car sold for $47K in 2005. I know the value of two seat sports cars has dropped, but 14k is absolutely unacceptable. Kelly Blue Book and NADA both average about 18.5 for this car. I'm really curious how you determine "current market value." Most dealers use KBB, NADA, or an average of both. Well, maybe we can still talk. Seeing how you are valuing my extremely nice, German engineered, rare, warranty-equipped, 0-60 in 4.7 second car at the price of a Hyundai Accent, just drop the price of the M3 down to $29,600."

Nothing back yet... LOL

BTW, That CTS V is already on the road and may be the fastest production 4-door sedan ever built by a factory. 0-60 in 3.5! Too much cash for me right now though as is the new M3 :-(

I was told dealers use wholesale auction prices to value cars now. Not sure if that was BS or not . I had a perfect GT Cruiser, real low miles, so clean you could eat off the bottom of it and they offered me less than my PT Cruiser I traded in, same miles/age, same condition to get the GT. I was told no one uses Kelly anymore, its useless. In our claims department they use something called "fair market value" to price a totaled vehicle. In other words they pull your zip code and maybe a few surrounding ones and find a "like and kind" vehicle and then price accordingly. They compensate for low miles, new tires, brakes etc. It used to be that a dealer would "screw you now, or screw you later on a car, now its seems they just screw you.

Have you driven an E46 M3 yet? If not you will be VERY disappointed in it's performance compared to the SRT-6. Stock ones out here in vegas struggle for mid 14's at the track when I was running 12.85 with just a damn intake. I do like the new M3s a LOT better though...............but you don't ever want to pull the engine out of one. I'm working on two of them(E92's) rite now that are the same color and almost exact same hits.

Here are my twins......................

I know this is not your point in this post, but how did you like your G35 Coupe?

Well, it worked for the Shelby Mustang owners.
I've been trying to get the AMX owners to ban together for years for the same reason, but it's been a lesson in futility. I even started a Registry "The AMX Deuce Coupe Registry" but only about 100 owners responded, (not enough to even put a dent in a price fixing scheme).

Most "smart" car dealers use the "Black Book" to figure wholesale prices. It comes out weekly, and it's a compilation of wholesale dealer auction prices from the previous week. The Black Book is also regional, (only lists prices for cars sold at auctions in their area).

I special ordered it from the factory with the options I wanted. All was great until it started consuming oil excessively. It was a known problem circulating through the G35Driver.com forum. Several 6MT owners were having their engines replaced under warranty because of it. My dealer performed consumption tests and said that Nissan was aware of the problem and were working on a fix, but didn't know how long it would take. That's when I got rid of it and got the SRT. It was SLOW compared to the SRT, the brakes only lasted 10k miles, and some interior pieces and body panels were sloppy.

As for the E46, yes, I've driven one and BMWs just drive superbly. Not sure what it is about them, they just feel right. If I have to get a sedan, I know it may not be as fast or as violent as the SRT, but it is a very, very, nice, beautiful car. I mean, c'mon, it's an M3, a benchmark and a legend. That being said, I don't think I'll be getting rid of the Xfire for a while (if ever) due to the terrible value. I'll just have to save up and start over with the climb up the auto ladder. Who knows, maybe I'll just go pay cash for an Altiima or something...

I still don't understand why anyone bothers trading in cars, it is a rip off...the money made on private party sale is almost always worth the extra sales tax from the car purchase.
