DIY Performance Intake (Like Code 3's)

Negatives? Can't think of any unless you are bothered by the increase of whine from the supercharger (SC) sucking in copious amounts of air! The air that is coming in through the "performance intake" (PI) will actually perform the same task as the diverter plate. As the air from the filtered intakes flows towards the SC, the air from the PI will direct all of the air into the SC.
Air and fuel aren't mixed until after the air has passed through the SC, intercooler and through the intake. So no disruptions.
Will it run lean? The computer is able to make adjustments for minor changes like this. It's when you get into forcing too much air (BIG boost) that you run into problems like leaning out the fuel mixture.

I've done the same mod as well. I used metal gutter mesh and a few layers of vent filter sprayed with foam filter oil. This will suffice until I get proper foam filter elements.
I can definitely hear the supercharger working (not so much with the windows rolled down). Butt dyno can't tell a power or response difference... still bloody fast from 80 to 100.

Then just do a proper intake upgrade. But thats just me.

Plus you get the sound!

The material is 3 stage each stage to catch different size particales. Last stage not seen in photo is very tight woven',.nothing but air will get through. The other 2 stages have a tack applied to them to hold particales in place ,so not to top load last stage. May not look good but sounds great .

Your intake has grown pubes. Looks a lot like mine
I need to add a layer of foam between the mesh and y-pipe for a better seal (although I'm sure it's tight and sealed enough).
When/if I decide on more boost I'll go with a different intake setup. For now it's been a fun mod and only took a few minutes and a few bucks!

I'm not trying to downplay the Code 3 intake in any way whatsoever. It uses high quality materials and is much better finished than I myself could fabricate.

I made mine for free. Used materials I had around the garage. Can't beat the power per dollar ratio. $0
I have been running this for over a month and it looks like I'll be able to go six months or more easy before changing the filter.

Yep, can’t hardly beat the free and low cost mods that actually make an improvement. Ingenuity at its finest.
Incidentally, did your 181mm get bolted to the crank this weekend?
