i dont have the factory torque specs for the mani bolts as they are not in the service manual that i coudl find (if anyone can find them please let me know and free set of gaskets for you). so i cant say for sure that they leak from the factory as there is no way to test that but when we bolted both used or brand new factory gaskets onto our cnc'd double blanchard ground test plate with a stock manifold they started leaking at 14psi, 15psi and it bubbled, 20psi with tons of bubbles and 25psi it hissed out. that is without any phenolic spacers.

anyone that has pulled their stock mani's off should swap these in IMO

anyone with phenolic spacers should surely swap these in IMO

anyone with just a pulley on their car may want to consider it, you guys paid how much for a 3psi increase????? if we gain you guys 1/2psi for $13 how cool is that? i dont have before/after numbers for you for boost curves as i dont want to put stock gaskets on our car and slow us down, sorry.

Rob, cool stuff. The $13 isn't a problem, neither is the spacers $$$ or the extra $13 for a second set, the problem is I get nervous touching the car... So I try to avoid it, unless I'm feeling stupid like the s/c pulley swap, or its simple like the NW intake.

Although I must say I impressed myself as I maintained composure during the nervous spark plug change and the fuel pump change....

But yeah, if I'm leaking boost then it bothers me, that's why I'm asking. I was hoping you'd say "You're probably ok with your pulley and intake". But, apparently not.

tricks for installing...

w/out phenolics....

get a can of 3m super 77 aerosol spray adheasive

manifold off the car and on the bench

make sure gasket mating surface is clean and lay manifold upside down on the bench

figure out which side of gasket goes to the mani and lay it up on a sheet of scrap cardboard

spray gasket with a light/moderate coat of the super 77 and wait for it to tack (i want to say 30 seconds but read the can).

gently set it onto manifold lined up and centered, start at the center port and press againt manifold with your fingers working outwards.

once gasket is lined up properly let it dry for a few minutes

tilt mani onto its side, put bolts back in, reinstall onto car

zero torque the manifold and then slowly torque outwards from the center, were going for ***edited, brian found the oem torque specs for us, 7 ft/lbs*** (7 ft/lbs is not enough in my opinion, im calling for 15 ft/lbs) as the s/c threads are aluminum and we dont want to pull them out. decently tight with a 3/8 wratched should be sufficient. dont get out a breaker bar and go crazy.

same as above, but i would spray tack them all togather starting at the manifold and working towards the s/c
it will help to have the bolts on the manifold when its upside down to align everythign from the start

Sheesh, I should've expected this. I'm about to order stuff for the car I bought saying "Finally a car that is stock fast that I won't have to mod!"

if you plan on keepign it bone stock leave it alone and just enjoy the car, no one NEEDS these, the car will still run, these just solve an inefficiency

Eventually.... Enough is never enough. In the end, we always want more

Plenty of room around the intake plenums with the SL55 intake to spray/test for leaks...

At 20-25 ft/lbs your probably tweaking the flanges of the intake plenums and causing maintenance induced failures.... I suggest 7 ft/lbs per the manual..

Here are the torque settings from the SRT6 Manual... Should I email you my address for a set of killer gaskets??.. (any other freebees?)

Rob, thanks for developing a good solution to seal the manifolds!! Do you recommend to put them in together with Phenolic Spacers? Have you tested the Phenolic Spacers, if they lower the IATs? I know that they keep the manifolds colder that you can touch them with your hands after a run. But the intake air is moving by so fast, do the Phenolic Spacers help to reduce IAT's? Thanks.

Regards Bruno

NW, in the description it says they are rubber/cork, but in the pic i just see cork. Wheres the rubber part?

I have trouble getting even cork oil pan gaskets to seal w/o the use of RTV. Wondering how tiny air particles dont leak through cork under boost?

They are a good idea, i just firgured they would be fully rubber or...

Thanks Rob - PM sent - I only ask that you ship them to another member who could really use them right now and who will provide the forum with his results..

I can always order a set later.

we have never tested nor installed installed phenolics on our car, ill leave that up to the companies that are profiting on them

the rubber is embedded into the cork which stops the air from leaking out thru the gasket. when holding the gaskets you can see the black rubber in them

I was digging up the (remarkably low) 10 Nm / 7 Ft. Lbs. torque specification last night from my MB reference library…when you beat me to the post.

You’re an upstanding member. Kudos.

NeedsWings- Good luck with your gaskets. For those leaking boost from there, they may indeed prove worthwhile.

the gaskets ship encased in a cardboard shell and inside a real box with proper packing materials and insurance thru fedex, not just thrown in an envelope with some stamps slapped on it
