Default Went to the Dyno today...

Well, I finally got a full dyno with all the info to send to Jerry at LET. According to the spreadsheet, temp was 86 degrees. Dynoed in 4th gear to 150 mph. The mods are deleted rear cats, Code-3 pulley, Jerry-LET Tune, and Intake. Surprisingly, the air fuel basically stayed around 12 through out the entire rev range which you can see in the photo below. 308.86 whp, 310.61 wtq. Seems to be low numbers for the mods I have, what do you guys think it should be at? I wish there was a way for them to dyno the car at 3000 rpms without having it downshifting to the lower gear. Could only start at 4000 rpms.

The most amazing thing that happened at this dyno day is a Viper GTS showed up with a GT55 turbo and put down an astonishing 1290 whp! You have to close your ears and also the wastegate underneath the car sent a blast of wind everywhere! It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Of course you had to leave the room right after because of the fumes!

Send your ecu back to Jerry for the update. It was 72 degrees this morning when I put mine on the Dyno, but I put down 334.5 rwhp and 317.2 tq. This was up from 320 with his old tune. Mods are in my signature.

I hate to say this too, but I see he has the file in STD. Most people look at the SAE numbers which will be even lower.

I see you helped the car with cooling with the spacers and Johnson pump. Great numbers indeed!

Don't get worked up over the dyno numbers. They are way too many variables. I put down 320 in 90 degree whether one day, and the 314 on a similar day with the SAME mods but different dyno. Both dyno's were Dyno jet, but one operator ran the car up to almost 150 mph and the other punched it in 3rd???? Today was much cooler, but more importantly, I could feel the difference in the car with Jerry's new tune and only put it on the dyno to check A/F. I was not expecting to see an increase as big as I saw! The real measurement is at the Track!!!

Was your air/fuel very similar to mine?

No, I am much leaner. On the old tune I was very close to you. Today, I saw as lean as 12.9. We have 93 octane gas in Texas so that is OK. The dyno operators did not have internet connection on the dyno computer, but he said we would email me my file on Monday. I will post the dyno sheet then. See this thread for complete details on my previous dyno runs.

My shop does the dyno in 3rd gear and I dont know it there is a meaningful difference for 3rd of 4th. Can anyone help specify the preferred method. Its nice that the curve starts out early, providing the view across the rpm range. The operator just eases into it from third and it does not seem to have a problem shifting down.

Real interesting is that your initial torque curve and mine at 2000 have the same shape of that little rectangular step up before if falls back to be flat. Must be a characterisitic of the transmission torque controller. Does anybody have more info on the internal operation of transmission torque control function? The service manual does not detail any meaningful information.

Glad to see that you got a chance to put down some numbers on the dyno. Do you have the altitude of the shop by any chance?

Enjoy Woody

Fourth gear is pretty much the industry standard for doing a dyno run. It makes it a lot easier for people like us to argue numbers on a level playing field. It also gives a little more precise graphing of how your engine runs, due to the longer time it takes to get to redline in a higher gear.

If all dyno runs were done in 1st or 2nd, the run would be over in a couple of seconds. Using a higher gear takes longer, and at least provides a much more accurate HP/Torque curve.

The biggest problem is that you'll get diferrent numbers from day to day, and dyno to dyno.

Question Re: Went to the Dyno today...

Is third gear or fourth gear a 1 : 1 ratio in the gearbox?Woody

I believe 4th is closest to a 1:1 ratio with our transmissions. I think I read on one of the forums that this is why the 3.2L is usually dynoed in 4th. I would think that using a lower gear may give inflated torque numbers, but I'm no dyno expert by any means.

Contact Jerry at LET and he can hook you up with someone close to you. IF you can find a Mustang AWD dyno you will be able to get a 6200 RPM run.

Why can't this be done on other dynos? What type of dyno do you guys have? I'm in NJ and will eventually be bringing my car by for a touch-up on my LET tune after a couple more mods.

You need to spin the front wheels at 15 mph or more for the speed sensor to not interfere. Otherwise you can have cut at anywhere from 5100-5800.

The dyno we use is in Toms River. Let me know when you want to get this done and we can meet at the dyno.

Even better, as Tom's river is closer to me. I will definitely call to schedule something as soon as I'm ready. I'm hoping Jerry will do some dyno testing with the Code3 + ASP pulley combo that I am running (we can use my car if he's in the area in the near future). I think I was the first one he tuned with this combo, but it was just a mail-in. He's also unlocked some extra power in the newer version of his tune, so I know there's more left in it if we can get it up on the dyno

Correctly, 4th gear is 1:1 ratio with our transmission.

Almost everyone does pulls in 3rd gear. This seems to be the standard.
