Exclamation NEW TOP SPEED 174 mph With No Codes!

This afternoon I finally broke the 170 mph barrier. I have had it in the upper 160s many times but never beyond 170. Though tach was nearing top of the 5,000s (ABOUT 5,800) I KNOW I can get 184 out of it. I don't think I will try until I put new rubber on the rear The Extas I have are showing quite a bit of wear and I have to say they were howling!
I didn't set out to do this today, asphalt was actually pretty cool for the summer tires but the sun was shining and not a soul in site so I barried it watched a good 1/8 mile ahead and didn't check quages until 156 and it was a very strong climb to 165 as always and then the rate slowed a bit as it crossed the 170 mark but this was my first time in anything over 170 so I found the climb rate still pretty impressive and I truely beleive it will do another 10 plus mph. The car felt light but still as though it had a great deal of down force on it. One wouldn't want to make a quick jesture to miss a gopher at this speed. I am not sure why but when I made notice of the speed and decided that was it for this one I hit the brakes pretty sudden and slowed to 120 very quickly then released and slowed at a more managable rate for the rest of my "return to sanity" speed. I am getting an addrenalin rush just repeating the event. This was a blast to say the least.
I promise I will have this SRT to 185 by next summer.
NEXT TIME I WILL TIGHTEN MY DIP STICK.
Enjoy the Ride...
Mike

Thank you, There are times when such a statement can be taken as a compliment...
I would like to add, that the area that I do my "high end" stuff at has no entrance roads or pull outs and is free of any blind spots. I also never do high end with anyone else in the cars with me. Nothing is worth endangering someone elses life for.
Enjoy the Ride...

My best so far is a road / traffic limited 150.
Did that on the trip home from San Diego where I picked up the car.
Looking forward to an open road where I can hit the computer limit of 158 (so I've read).

Remember, Speed Kills! Be careful!

Hey, Montana. What mods? You must have at least an ECU reflash to remove the electronic governor.

Steve had his SRT6 up to 180+MPH

My personal best is still 170MPH

Once I put some new tires on I'd like to take it back out to the desert for a run..

There is a big bicycle race going on down by the coast (Amgen tour of California - (The Company I work for sponsers the #2 team in the world -- "Team CSC")

Anyway - I knew that the race would take almost all the available Highway Patrol Officers to run this huge race thru the area so I figured it's a good day for a high speed run if I went out to the desert.

Conditions: Flat, two lane road - blacktop - in excellent condition - (no place for a CHP to hide)

I dialed Mohave Airport AWOS prior to the run -

Temp: 10.2 Deg C - - 50.4 deg F
Dew Point: 0.3 Deg C - - 32.5 deg F
Relative Humidity: 53%
Skies: OVC 080
Altimeter: 30.04 in mercury
Corrected elevation 2,358 feet ASL

Run one = 165MPH
Run two = 170MPH

1).185mm LET pulley
2).Dual Cold Air Intake self fabricated
3).Opened up front air channels to allow more intake air flow
4).Jerry From LET ECU MAX tune
5).LET Inter Cooler with Johnson Pump
6).Phenolic spacers on manifolds
7).Self Fabbed cat back exhaust
8).shortened/stiffened Mercedes R-170 springs lowering car 1.5" Front, 1.8" Rear
9).Fiberglassed and reinforced rear of Front air dam to increase functionality and performance
10).everyone who has ever turned a wrench has a couple secrets handed down to him that will always be kept secret to help keep him just a bit ahead of the other guy.
At this time I think most of my future modifications will be to aid in the aerodynamics and handling of the car. By no means do I think one couldn't drag alot more h/p out of the AMG powerplant but for my type of driving both everyday cruising and occasional Track (I drive road courses) not drag strip, I am at a happy medium for power/dependability. I can do far more to improve lap times in ways other than increasing the h/p. I will say, this little V6 has incredible possibilities.

MILES? you have to remember that these SRTs are doing over 110mph at the end of the Quarter mile with an extreme rate of excelleration still under its belt. I only have a couple of miles to get it up to that speed and back to a leagally accepted pace. I will have to get back wth you after my next run I guess I haven't ever really paid much attention to that aspect of my runs.

Truly this is not in my imagination it helps.
When I say improve performance I mean of the spoiler not the engine!

Were you using a GPS or the speedometer? I know on motorcycles the indicated speeds can be off like up to 10%, so I've heard. I have used my GPS in my truck and the GPS would indicate 80mph, but my speedo would show 76mph. I haven't had a chance to use the GPS in the XF as my son is never home long enough so I can grab the GPS from MY truck. (lol)

Thats fast!

I hope you have an a/f gauge to tell you if its running lean at the top of 4th and 5th. Theres a lot of wind resistance and that motor is working hard.

Just a though...
