NEW TOP SPEED 174 mph With No Codes!
Re: NEW TOP SPEED 174 mph With No Codes!
nice run, I did 158 in less than a mile from a dead stop before my tune...since the tune the parameters are set to 190, but haven't had a chance or a place to try it again...158 is the cut-off unless you have a custom tune...but Steve Hellums did 184+ or - in a 2 1/2 mile run from a 70 mph kick down...still impressive car, that will run top end and still do a quarter mile w/ the best of them....

I don't think I will try until I put new rubber on the rear The Extas I have are showing quite a bit of wear and I have to say they were howling!
I didn't set out to do this today, asphalt was actually pretty cool for the summer tires but the sun was shining and not a soul in site so I barried it watched a good 1/8 mile ahead and didn't check quages until 156 and it was a very strong climb to 165 as always and then the rate slowed a bit as it crossed the 170 mark but this was my first time in anything over 170 so I found the climb rate still pretty impressive and I truely beleive it will do another 10 plus mph. The car felt light but still as though it had a great deal of down force on it. One wouldn't want to make a quick jesture to miss a gopher at this speed. I am not sure why but when I made notice of the speed and decided that was it for this one I hit the brakes pretty sudden and slowed to 120 very quickly then released and slowed at a more managable rate for the rest of my "return to sanity" speed. I am getting an addrenalin rush just repeating the event. This was a blast to say the least.
I promise I will have this SRT to 185 by next summer.
NEXT TIME I WILL TIGHTEN MY DIP STICK.
Enjoy the Ride...

I have to say, all these people who have topped out at these crazy speeds has me worried. No matter how deserted, and safe the location seems to be, there is always a chance of tire failure (no matter how good of tire you're using). This is coming from an old B.F.Goodrich employee, so I just hope you guys stay safe.
We've already lost one forum member, and it really brought the entire forum down for quite awhile. So I goes without saying we sure don't want to lose anybody else.

I would say these kinds of speeds would just destroy the car and anyone in it. Malfunctions can occur, but that it was makes speed so addictive. The safety equipment is not there but when the road calls one must listen. Montana has a lot of open space which is good. Too much congestion on FL highways to get anything above 120 but for a brief time. Especially with all the construction. It would be nice to have some wide open space.

Watch what you say on this forum, with pictures of cars and their plates, partial VIN's numbers, names etc who is to say your local police, car, life, and health insurance companies are not keeping tabs on you. You may get a big surprise when you come to renew the insurance. Also that trooper who stops you may have your plate number on his sheet.

I doubt it would hold much legal merit, but we got a giggle or two out of it

WOW! that's fast - about ayear ago I was driving at nite with the top down, tunes blaring when I noticed headlights quickly coming up from behind, pulled over (was doing 85) and a 911 flew bye, WELL - did about 130-140 to catch him, we played for about 45 mintutes - while it was a blast - I still had the top down running over 120 - and finally reality took over - blinked my lights to him and came back to earth at 85. The 911 vanished!
That was the fastest 60 miles I had ever gone! at 170+ - not sure I would want to know!

I love going fast, but I'll leave that stuff to the bigboys/crazy mfr's. I get a little nervous above 150 and start seeing my Dr.lic./insurance/deer/car impounded etc.. and usually back down. Sure wish we had something like the "texas mile" over my way. There is a 2 mile straight track in NC, but you must have cage, steel seat,6 pt harness and all kinds of equipment if you go over 150 mph. Not worth the mutilation IMO.
Re: NEW TOP SPEED 174 mph With No Codes!
Hit 140 on post today.
I asked my buddy, an ex-MP (military police), what would happen if I got caught. He said the poor MP would probably shoot me, not knowing what else to do!
You know the video going around with the guy in the WRX raising hell at the abandoned airport? One of my co-workers sent an email out today with that video and he titled it "DJ going to work"!
Just shows you my driving reputation around here.
I wish I could drive that that guy!
