Angry Still get overtemp no SC with Code 3 pulley and new johnson pump

Hi folks.
Here's the deal. Posted that I installed my Code 3 pulley and SC would quit before 10 miles or so. With the stock pulley things are perfect.

Most recommended that I get the Johnson pump because it sounded like an overtemp problem with the IC.

Update: Johnson pump installed. Ran all day with the stock pulley, perfect.
Installed the Code 3 pulley and I'm back to no SC before 10 miles or so.

I need your guidance! I want my boost back!!!

well, unless your belt is slipping, which you should hear...I have no idea...the pulley is just smaller, or you are installing it wrong...and it isn't shimmed right...thus not engaging...

Not a belt problem, installed correctly in all respects.
Works just fine till I get into it for a while.
Works perfect when stock pulley is mounted.
Once the problem starts (no SC) the SC won't come back till the car cools down.
Coolant is very clean and full.
????????

Are you feeling the SC providing boost in the first 10 min with the Code3 pulley installed?

I figure if you have swapped them out this many times you got the install right... Can't be anything else if all systems are go with the stock pulley...

Give code3 a call to see what they think, maybe the pulley clutch is bad?

Now this sounds like perhaps the SC clutch is engaged all the time with the Code3 pulley installed and you are overheating your IC system.

I'm still one who believes our SuperCharger is "On Demand"

if not properly shimmed, it could be engaged all the time...but the latest ones shouldn't need the shims...did you gauge the distance from pulley to clutch??? certainly isn't a cooling problem if the OEM works just fine...

You could always send it back and get a 178mm crank pulley. Code3 did say they are making their own pullies now. I would stay with an ASP 178mm.

Pulley is 100% installed correctly. Supercharger works 100% till what I believe is heat causes the SC to shutdown with the Code 3 pulley.

With the stock pulley car, pulley, SC operate 100% all of the time.

I'm still scratching my head!

yep, me too, can't be that much difference other than the shims...has to be the Code 3 pulley...have them ship you another one...my first one wasn't quite right, and they shipped my a replacement, I was just out the shipping charges, but the second one was fine...the first one was fine as well, just wasn't as true fitting as I wanted, they are grt w/ their service and advice...

I have been here, you more than likely have air in the I/C circuit. Look over my posts re the H/E issues and see how I got out the air by pinching the hose leading out of the I/C. You can see my Utube video part #2 that shows water flow.

The heat build up takes a bit of time and you can run till you hit the wall thermally. Be sure that the water has been cleared of air in the H/E and I/C system. It takes time and a bubble will vastly reduce the cooling available to your car.

The super charger only runs in gear and above about 1300 rpm, until you come to another stop; though several have not been convinced. I have done several tests to demonstrate this operation. If you have the red wire getting 12 volt power you should be ok.

If you pinch the hose coming out of the I/C can you feel the water trying to go thru it?

Let us know, Enjoy. WOODY

Woody et all,
Performed the bleed procedure and today I made it to work without any problems.
Tomorrow I will drive my son to school (Longer drive) to see if I encounter the over temp problem. So far so good.
Will post update. Thanks.

Yeah I was running hot after I changed my oem pump to another oem pump. Air introduced during the swap. Thanks woody for telling me to quit being stupid (but in your words, to slightly clamp the exit hose and go for a long drive)

Update:

Made it to my son's school and to work without losing power!
Could this be it!?

I'll give it a couple of days and update again.

BWT seeing 13 lbs of boost with Code 3 pulley @ 4700 ft elevation (is that a factor?)

Thanks Woody!

How much boost did you have with the stock pulley?

Most people get 14 to 14.5 psi on the stock pulley.

My previous post was this morning with cool air. This afternoon on the way home it happened again, no SC.
I once again tried the bleed procedure and got some more tiny bubbles.
Will report back tomorrow afternoon.

Woody, would it help to install this http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku in line with the stock IC? Just happen to have one laying around.

Yes boost is 13 lbs with the Code 3 for me. Could it be the altitude here?? 4600 ft.

I hate to say this.. - but it ain't the bubbles...or the elevation...all moving water has some sort of cavitation or bubbles...if it was, your SC would be cutting out with the factory pulley installed.

Somehow your SC clutch is staying engaged all the time with the aftermarket pulley installed -- causing extreme heat.

I installed one, if not the biggest crank pullies, I run my SRT hard, and I have yet to ever have the SC shut down.. Not once...and I've run hard in 90+ degree heat....

When driving normal, my SC is not engaged and thus not creating elevated IAT heat. Once I stomp on it or produce a load....my IAT gauge begins to climb..along with my boost gauge....

I suggest you send the pulley back to Code3 for a replacement and see what happens...

If the issue isn't happening with your factory pulley - that nails the suspected problem down...
