Default I need some help!

On my way home this evening I heard this very bad sounding noise from under the engine. I noticed my battery light came on so I pulled into the shopping center parking lot to take a look under the hood. My drive belt is ripped to pieces all over the place.
I need a picture of the front of someones engine to see what parts are missing from mine. Could someone take a shot and post it up for me. Thanks! I'm looking at the water pump and I'm not seeing any way for this belt to turn it. The pulley above the water pump, I think the one that the 181 had the recall for, is gone and the only thing left is a braket with one bolt hole. I forgot to bring my camera when I went back over to assess the damage. I'll see if I can run back over and take a few pictures of the missing pieces.
So far I know I need a belt. What are the chances that the dealer would have one in stock? I heard something metal under the oil pan sitting on top of the plastic tray, so I'm hoping that's the missing pulley and parts. With a hot engine, it's not the easiest to stick your hands down there. At least I'm only about 1.5 miles from home when this happened.

I also stopped before it overheated.
I'll go take some pictures to show the missing parts.

Sounds like your idler pulley left for parts unknown. I'll edit this with pics in a few minutes.

Not sure if this will help but it's to dark to get a engine pic right now.

The water pump pulley is definately gone. I'm hoping that once it cools I can reach under and get what is remaining from under the engine.

Thanks for the pictures.

Toy,
From you signature it looks like you have factory pulleys. Is that correct? This would be the first factory WP pulley I have seen posted that came off. I expect that your WP froze up to cause this. But it is curious. Give us more info as you find things out.

The 4 bolts are still there.
Anyone else with the 185 have a failure? I'd only heard of the 181 water pump being replaced. I was all over up in Orlando this morning too. I'm glad it at least happened so close to home. I guess I'll call AAA in the morning to tow it home so I can work on it after I get some replacement parts. I sent Eric and PM about my situation. Thanks everyone for you help.

Please explain, there has never been any mention of this being an issue with the 178 or Code 3 that I have seen. I have the Code 3 so I would hope I'm safe... If not, what do you change the WP Pulley too? The 178 has been around for a LONG time, and I've never heard of a problem...

Sorry for your luck Toy, hope everythig works out ok.

Except the 178mm that most have here is from ASP. No problems, but always good to look.

Talking Re: I need some help!

I have a code 3 pulley but bought a spare belt just to be safe. I got the longer one that is 115.3" versis 114.5 and might suggest that it would reduce the loading on the entire pulley system.

Several posts have mentioned tight belts and here is a bit of relief that might be good insurance. The numbers are listed in the post I started a while back about needing a spare belt.

Enjoy, Woody

P.S. When I fixed my water pump after my failure, I used the old srt water pump casting and re-inserted the pump from a NA pump casting. Pump bodies are the same, NA has a VERY different casting and lower price.

The recall was on LET pulley's not Code 3, it was originally 181, but I thought the thinner design after the first run filtered down to all three??

The 178 has nothing to do with LET. Only the 181 and 185 setups are LET related and have had wpp failures. They have issued several recalls on ALL wpp associated with their setups too avoid further pulley collapses, damaged belts, and other potential problems. If you have the original wpp mounted that was shipped with your lager crank pulley, it is susceptible too collapse. Take advantage of the FREE redesigned replacement wpp offered by LET. If not it will cost you.....

I got my Crossfire tucked safely away back in my garage. I called AAA and in about 30 minutes from calling I had my car back home. Great response!!

Now I'm just waiting to hear something from LET about some new parts. I can't believe this pulley came apart like it did with about 3000 miles of driving.

LET is sending me a new water pump pulley. It should be here tomorrow. The new ones are suppost to be 400% stronger than the one I had break. I'll pull the fan out tomorrow night and put the new pulley and belt on after I give everything a good inspection.

I'll let everyone know what happens tomorrow night.

I got the new pulley and belt today and everything is back together again. I put the 115.3 belt on instead of the factory 114.5. I have to say it went on much easier having that little bit of extra length. I only took it around the block, 15-20 mph, just to be able to make sure everything is aligned correctly. I'll take it for a drive tomorrow when I go to work to see how it runs with the s/c engaged. I hate going for a test drive in the dark, just in case!!

That's to everyone for there help, especially robbie for the diagram which was very useful tonight and mike for the pics to help determine what was missing.

I suggest everyone with a 181 or 185 LET pulley give a visual look at your waterpump pulley.
