Default inspection problem

Because I live in the great state of NY i have to put on the front plate and get state inspection. Both **** me off but to make it even better i didn't pass inspection. Not sure if this is a problem only on the srt versions or if it happens on the regular ones. I failed the inspection because they said something about the moduals not reseting. When i asked how to fix this they looked at me like a deer in headlights. I took my car and left with some unkind words. How do you work here and not know anything about cars. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone would know how to fix it.

I'm in NY too. From what I understand they changed the inspection procudure a year or two ago so that cars cannot pass if their is a CEL or code being read. The theory was that those codes could indicate something potentially wrong that would impact emissions and making it an inspection items forces peiople to fix it. Just disconnect the battery for 15 minutes to clear out any codes and take it back to the same inspection station. They obviously know how to reset the codes too, but by law their not supposed to do it without "fixing the underlying problem" -- phantom or not.

Going through the same thing with my car. First go to wal-mart and buy a code reader like the Innova 3100. My battery was disconnected. I have since put on 400 miles and the 2A EV E codes which are all emmissions related are still off line. I was told by a very reliable source that it can take up to 700 miles of driving to reset the factory system. You can also try and find a Dealer with Star diagnostic tools for Mercedes and they can hard program the sensors. I don't know what that costs. If you want pm me your phone number I can get you around the front plate issue and if you are close you can use the code reader I have to see what is going on. Dave

Don't do what Piranha states. The codes will not be erased by disconnecting the battery you will only add more sensors off line. If you have DTC's stored they can be erased with a code reader. If the car has had the battery disconnected or gone dead this is where the problem is. If you have hard codes stored then the action required to fix them needs to be done. IE bad oxygen sensor then it needs to be replaced. Sensors off line like what I have are battery and run time related.

Va has gone to checking the OBDII connector to see it there are any issues. I always reset the codes as a matter of fact when I go to take it in for an inspection, Woody; Enjoy.

Woody the codes I listed aren't hard codes they set no DTC's they basically stay off line untill the computer logs enough run time to set them. This run time varies it needs to have a certain amount of idle, run acceleration,shifting,braking.... Thank you mercedes.... The viper resets in about 10 miles of run time.

Here in AZ, inspection is based only on OBDII scanning. No visual or tailpipe tests. So yeah, I plan on getting a cheap scanner.... You never know what hidden codes are sitting in there.

My parents just bought the car in NH and drove it back to NY. I go to college in florida and am flying back to NY tomrrow to get the can and drive it back. So i have no idea what they have done up there. I was just told by my parents what they said. Yesterday i was told that the dealer up in NY has my car and is going to keep it over night to make it pass inspection. I just feel like there going to make it burnout. I never liked the dealer near me. Bad experience with them and they love to rip people off.

I just renewed mine $560 for the year. Don't know about Tucson, but here in the the valley no inspections either until the car is over 5 years old, then it's with OBDII. Over 10 years is with both OBDII and tailpipe. It must suck to be in NY. Besides your car has full emissions warranty for 8 years from the factory. I don't see it being anything major.

Rural is no inspections on anything. Now that's nice. I got my 68' pickup through emissions by putting collector car insurance on it. By doing that no emissions is required. Special collector car law we have.
