Smile hello from girl in uk!!

Hello all! I just joined here yesterday. I own a black srt6 that I have owned for a few months now. Great car.. great kick-down, awesome brakes!! HOWEVER my question concerns the engine on tick-over... it sounds a bit "chuggy" when i am waiting in car whilst its running in park or drive, it sounds like a muted diesel engine.. or the old familiar tappets noise I used to hear on my old ford, there is nothing wrong with the SRT6, its only done 7k miles, its just I am wondering if this gentle chuggy tick over noise is usual for the SRT6??

Hi Moynah! Welcome! You sound a little too car smart to be running inferior or low octane fuel. Sometimes you just get a bad batch due to someone fooling with it or other reasons. You might try some gas treatment to get excess water out of the tank. If it's been sitting on the lot for a long time it may have some real funky fuel left in it. My new srt6 sat on the lot for three and a half years. I'm not sure about the timing on this thing and if it's adjustable or not but overly advance timing can promote diesaling. Since I'm a new owner I don't know a lot about these cars. This forum has a lot of very experienced people, keep asking and someone will come up with suggestions. GOD BLESS ENGLAND! I couldn't figure out how to spell Britainia (hey! that's it) Hail Britainia!

like you and all here I wouldnt agree. The Crossfire has a lovely a%se!

I much prefer the shape of our car to the 320SLK Mercedes it was based on.
I test drove the BMW Z4 and the Audi TT 3.2 QUATTRO before deciding on my Crossfire.
We made the right choice.

Hi Max!
Thank you for going to the trouble to reply... Yes you are RIGHT! My SRT-6 (Its name....BullyBoy) Did indeed sit in the previous owners garage for most of its first two years of life. So I will check out what you suggested and hope my bully sounds more grunty
thanks!! xx

Hi Mr Max,
Just a heads up on the type of fuel here in the UK.
The mininum octane here is 95 (standard unleaded) the max is 99 (Shell V-Power), these all available at the high street pumps.

If you haven't yet, change the oil and filter as well. With the low mileage the maintenance clock will probably show that it's not due, but both the oil and filter do degrade over time. Some fresh oil (make sure you use the specified synthetic only and fleece canister filter) may help to smooth out some of the mechanical noise on cold idle.

Well I DO happen to be single, but this aint no dating site!
Seriously need help for modding bullyboy though. The first thing to be replaced HAS to be recaro seats cause the factory SRT6 seats make me skid all over the place... like sitting on a park bench

I am IMPRESSED with your traction mods. WOW

WOW! Steve, I'm impressed! 95-99 octane, the standard here is 91, However we can get racing gasoline down the street as if prices were not high enough. Maybe you have that high test stuff for all those old 11:1
and 12:1 Jaguars. I have one of those beasts 1989 XJS convertible with 11:1 and a blown headgasket.

Say hi to Tony and the new guy for me, oh yeh, Sir Mick too.

I've read that if they are not driven regularly, the oil tends to drain down and there is some tappet noise until it builds pressure forces oil throughout. Make sure you're running a good synthetic like Mobil1 0W-40. Otherwise the exhaust does have a nice "chug" to it and positively growls under hard acceleration.

Love the Brit terminology...we need to see more bonnets and boots to break the US English monotony. Where do you find a place to wind it up to 150 (more like 250 in your country)? -- I thought England was all twisty little country lanes other than the Ms.
