Talking NEW Crossfire SRT6 OWNER

Finally (almost a month after I paid for it) my silver sapphire blue SRT6 roadster from Texas was delivered this afternoon

First up - gas
Second up - car wash
Third up - ROAD TRIP

After 50 miles of "spirited" driving, I have to say I'm fairly impressed with the car.

I definitely don't care for the "drive-by-wire" throttle lag but aside from that, so far, I think it's a great car. It's a blast to drive, great with the top down, and it's speed is impressive, without realizing it, 100+ mph is staring back at you from the speedometer

When you guys said the trunk was small, you weren't kidding. I had an 1989 Saleen convertible Mustang and I thought it had a small trunk, but at least you could squeeze in a set of golf clubs....not likely here (good thing I don't play golf!).

A couple of SRT6 newbie questions:

o Will resetting the ECU reduce the throttle response lag at all ?

o My windshield washer fluid light was on. I filled it up, and thought man this thing is taking a lot of fluid, so I stopped after about a half gallon or so. Then I saw a large puddle in the driveway. Thought perhaps it was overfilled, but when I turn the ignition on, it still shows as empty/low, so it appears to have a leak. The filler neck goes into the fender well. Is there something common to check that breaks on these, such as a hose that loosens up or such ?
Is it a PITA to get to the washer fluid reservoir ?

TIA,
Brian

There should not be any lag at all. Try resetting the throttle by turning the key to power everything up but not turning the engine over. Press the throttle down the whole way for 5 seconds or so. Release it and them turn key totally off. Go for a drive and see if it made any difference. If not, there is something else wrong. Possibly the HE pump or maybe someone else has another idea. There should be instant throttle response at just about any speed. Not sure about the washer fluid.

Glad to hear you got the car - how many miles on it and what city are you located in?

If you overfill the washer bottle too far it will leak out like that. That part should be normal, unless ALL of what you put in has ran out. That should be easy to tell. The idiot light should have gone out.

Throttle reset and a sprint booster will help with the lag. Washer fluid holder is a pain to get to. As stated above they dont fill to the top but dump into the inner fender at a certain level.

When I first got mine it had throttle lag but after the reset and driving aggressively ended that problem. don't really think the sprint booster was necessary. I'd go for the ecu flash.

When I first got my SRT-6, I had issues with the throttle and shifting, especially from 1st to 2nd. The throttle reset helped some but what helped the most was just driving the car. It seems to have adjusted to my style of driving and has calmed down in traffic. If the car is driven in traffic all the time it seems to adapt to granny mode after about 50 to 100 miles. If you drive ***** to the wall all the time, it takes about a 50 to 100 miles to undo granny mode and go to primal mode. Give it a few more days before changing anything. As far as the washer fluid. Take a look at the "Sticky" SRT-6 documentation. It has a link to the repair manual where you may find the answer.

I believe the ECU reset is, key to on position(but not start)..gas pedal to floor and hold for 5 seconds..key off....release gas pedal. Start car and enjoy. Congrats on the new SRT and have lots of fun. They are an amazing ride.

It has 17K miles on it, and I'm in Brentwood, CA (Northern California, not the infamous O.J. Simpson Brentwood

I'm pretty sure it all leaked out, and the idiot light is still on.

I've driven 2 different SRT's, one with a Sprint Booster (mine) and one without, back to back. There's honestly a huge difference between the two cars and how they respond on a light tap of the pedal. When you mash it it won't matter too much but for light to moderate acceleratoin it's a big difference.

I just wouldn't buy one brand new, it's kind of a lot for a little electrical piece.

Thanks everyone. I'll check out the shop manual for the washer fluid, and I'll try the ECU reset this morning and drive it like I stole it for a while (heck, who am I kidding, all the time

I put another 120 miles or so on the SRT yesterday and it's really a fun car. Doesn't have the off the line power of my Viper, but it definitely has some serious power.

I think my car has a gas leak though....it's sucking though gas faster then water goes over Niagra falls

Congrats on the new ride. I bet it doesn't leak gas as fast as the Viper would.

500 hp vs 330 hp -- I hope the Viper is faster. And you don't burn your legs getting in and out of a Crossfire! I can't break 24 mpg when driving sane at 70-75 mph. More aggressive driving just causes the needle to plunge. Enjoy the ride.

That's debatable

Sure if you drive it like a grandma, their both capable of getting decent mileage (the Viper has a 6-speed, so if you baby it, it's possible to get 22-24mpg hwy). I suspect if you baby the SRT it can also get similar mileage, but who drives these things like an old lady ?

There's an easy way to fix the burning issue....remove, or relocate the cats. But yes, good points. The Viper has 488ft lbs of torque, I think that's really key on the launch, vs what the Crossfire has (330 if I recall correctly), but it's also difficult to transfer that to the ground.
