Say hi to the buyer of a NEW SRT-6
Say hi to the buyer of a NEW SRT-6
At least never titled, with 60 miles, and a bonafide 2006 on top of that. It was built May 2006, passed through customs in Germany September 25, 2006 and landed Jacksonville where for some reason it sat for quite some time before getting to Puerto Rico. I couldn't resist it. Despite all my preoccupations buying a 2 year old new car, (and I think with good reason) I did it anyway. Tomorrow if the weather is nice enough I will give it a get acquainted wash and wax and take pictures for the masses. Now comes the fun!

Thanks for the welcome.
Less then 12 I'm told, but actually, I don't have a clue. I've only seen one and it was for sale a couple of years ago. (Very expensive too)
I just came in form gently taking off all the dealer stick-ons. Just checking things. Now I know why the car rode so rough. It had over 50 lbs of air in 2 tires, off the scale in one (my pressure gauge goes to 60) and one with 30 lbs. I think a fluid change is happening immediately! And who knows what's in the tank. Thankfully the dealer turned it over to me with the reserve light lit. Tomorrow its 93 to the top.
By the way, anyone know if the interior lights are supposed to light with the door open, or how to turn the feature on?
Oh, the first part broke. When I was checking the car at the dealer before pulling away with my new purchase, a lady pulled in beside me and said, "your gas door fell off" Sure enough, it was on the asphalt. Seems someone forced it open and broke the tabs that hold the cover to the plastic opening mechanism. They are ordering one monday and painting it for me. I have the broken one and will find a way to velcro it provisionally.

When i hit them with 25 they pulled out the invoices for all the cars on the lot. They paid 39 something and 6 thousand in import taxes. I got it for 35 including a 6 year 60,000 mile warranty. My budget for this car was 35 so while it's a bit more than I wanted to pay, it's within my self imposed parameters.
I have no idea where to find the build number.

Here she is. The gas door is ordered. Some moron couldn't get it open and tried to force it, or someone was intent on taking the gas in the tank. I've included the pics of the warts. The broken stoplight I just found washing the car, but I'm sure the dealer will take care of it too.
I'm excited about this car. Fixing the small defects comes first and then we will se where the modding bug takes me.

Don't know if you were aware or not but if I'm not mistaken, ya got one of only twelve SRT6's even produced on 2006.
It's a rare year for the SRT6 so ya got something special there.
Enjoy for many years to come.

I clayed and waxed the car this morning. I was thinking I should polish it after claying, being 2 years without waxing. Didn't have the time today but I will certainly take care of the omission in the near future. Overall, when the gas cover and broken stoplight are replaced, I bought a real nice car for a good price (for Puerto Rico, at least). I still have to clean and detail the interior too. The car drives great. A little rough over the bumps but after a few curves it's like, what rough ride? Good grip and positive steering, great turn in and feel. When the time and situation is right, we'll see what she can really do. And it looks like she can do a lot.

Congratulations. Do us all one favor. Next time a Force5 hurricane comes through, make sure you move it out of the garage and in to the attic. We'd hate to see it water damaged. Good luck and enjoy cruising. I bet you can beat anything on the island.
Re: Say hi to the buyer of a NEW SRT-6
How did you know I live on the beach? Not to worry, I park in the basement and in all my years living in P.R. and all the hurricanes, the basement has never flooded. Naturally tons of water comes in, but the sump pumps do a really good job, and they are connected to the emergency plant. (you know the electricity is going out way before the storm hits full force.)
As far as beating everything on the Island, I took a ride in a friends modified Turbo Porsche a few years ago and it wouldn't be close. That thing was a monster and I know from him how many more are out there. But I would love to give it a shot anyway. He's getting a ride as soon as I feel the SRT is broken in and he will be able to give me a good idea where I stand on the ladder.

Only been to PR once, several years ago for a TKD tourney down in San Germain, I noticed many cars had front left damage After driving around the island up and down and around the hills, I understood why. Too many PR's driving too fast and not driving XF's. Lots of cars off the side of the road with lots of damage.
Congrat on your rare SRT6. First buy a Valentine. Secondly, ASAP change your front brake pads to Gold Rotex, You will get tired of cleaning the front wheels.

Make sure that the locking pin for the Gas door is working properly. It's very possible that the reason they broke the gas door off was because the pin wasn't retracting and the door was staying locked.
This happened with mine because the vacuum pump which controls the power locks, tailgate lock and gas door lock had failed due to water intrusion in the right rear area of the car, but any one of the vacuum points can also become clogged or fail independently. This is one of the Mercedes holdovers I'd much rather do without.
