Default Violent Jolt From Lurking to Buying... HELP??!!!

Short version: I've been SRT-6 window shopping for a bit now, then today I was T-boned in my SRT-4 by a red-light runner. I'm ok, but the car is probably totalled. I need a replacement ASAP and the SRT-6 is my #1 choice. Any wisdom or leads for a new member to the community?

I've got a couple of buddies who hit the dealer auctions, but these aren't exactly easy to find so I need all the help I can get on a decent deal.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm open to both the coupe and the roadster, but price is an issue so I have to deal with reality.

I wouldn't pay more than $25k for a low mileage roadster, or $22k for a low mileage coupe.

You can find 20k mile coupes for around $19-20, and 20k mile roadsters for $22k

The cheapest SRT I have seen (that wasn't a scam) was $16.5k, and it had 47k miles. I'm sure there are others cheaper.

The most expensive was $50k for a roadster (and they will never get it).

Check the classifieds, there is a guy who has been posting recent ads.

I had to sell my SRT a few months back to fund my Wife's masters degree. 25 more months and I'll be shopping again. In the meantime, I've been watching the 'market'.

Bummer on the SRT-4, but you'll love the 6!

I'm glad you're ok. Finding a good SRT isn't as easy as it used to be. Last weekend there were 11 roadsters and coupes on Autotrader, and only one coupe on ebay. There are a lot of them out there with low mileage but no warranty. I would look for one of the "inventory reduction" cars that have an in service date in 2007. If possible, get a Certified used one from a chrysler dealer, you'll get the 8 year 80,000 mile warranty.

Good luck!

I found mine searching online (Autotrader). I would suggest doing a lot of searching/calling to find one close to you and at the best price. There are definitely some ridiculous deals out there right now, good luck with your search... from a fellow SRT-4 owner to an SRT-6, you'll love the 6!

An SRT-6? I can't find that anywhere. Maybe it sold. You should have PMed that to me!

I also saw the one in Phoenix on Autotrader.com. I can go and look at it for you if you are really interested. It is a SSB coupe with 25,553 mi. There is also another coupe in PHX that is going for $24K and only has 134 mi. on it. So it is basically brand new.

The one for $24K with only a hundred or so miles on it sounds like a good deal. I'm sure they would be willing to negotiate a little too. This one from rodimus' cars list link looks like a good deal too, $21,900 and only 1700 miles on it. No matter what you do, if its not local to you, make sure you find someone to go look the car over for you before you spend time/money to pick one up.

Thanks for all the help!!!! I was out test-driving this afternoon and ran into a strange thing on the test-drive;

I would knock it down to 2nd gear and come up an entrance ramp, then punch it at about 4000 RPM and the engine and exhaust note would change, but almost no accelleration? What would cause that? It happened a couple times... Traction control was off and car was in Summer driving mode.

There is a common problem with the auxiliary pump for the supercharger. That might be it. Did it feel almost limp? Was it only second gear??

Definitely sounds like intercooler water pump failure.

VERY limp, it was just zero power. It was like flooring this little turd of a rental car they gave me (Cobalt ). I think it may have been in 3rd one of the times. When the IC pump goes bad, does it just overheat and go into super-limp mode until it cools down?

I did several WOT pulls during my test drive (they let me go by myself ) and it was on the way back in the last couple miles. I came up the ramp with it holding second and floored a few times and it just made noise but almost no accelleration. Then a mile down the road I punched it and it was all back. Then coming off the next ramp and merging into traffic it fell flat when I floored it a couple more times, then after another couple tenths of a mile it came back...

I also noticed a little red light that looked like a steering wheel at the bottom left (I think?) of the dash display. What is that?

Definitely sounds like the pump. The dealer will fix this. A lot of SRT owners by the johnson pump, like here-

Here is a thread on that. There are countless threads on this...

Is it from a deal or private??

The little light that looked like a steering wheel was probably the warning light indicating that the telescopic steering wheel was probably not locked properly. There's a lever under the column that needs to be pushed in all the way to lock the steering wheel in it's position.
