Gas mileage challenge
Gas mileage challenge
Here it is, Mrs. Punkin and I just got back from a long vacation with Cross and Fire. I have the mileage numbers and unless someone can come up with better numbers, I plan to wear the crown of "Mileage King of the SRT's". My best one tank fillup was 315/11.7 for 26.9 mpg. 311/11.6, 213/8.0. The worst was 18.5mpg. The entire trip was 1882/76.29 for a trip average of 24.7. Now I tried to make each tank as equal as possible. The auto shutoff would trip and I would put $1.00 more in the tank. I was suprised the price for 93 octane was from 4.09 to 4.33 per gallon.
All four of us drove from New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virgina, N. Carolina, Tennesse, Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, W. Virgina, Pennsylvania, and back to New Jersey.
How's that for fun. I refuse to participate in the gas price hysteria and just had fun instead. We did our part to stimulate the economy this summer.

Sounds pretty good to me. I don't ever keep track of the SRT-6 because I can't keep my foot out of it I was on the other hand pleased with my new 5.7 Double cab Tundra this weekend. It averaged 20MPG on our weekend camping trip. This was through the mountains of Arkansas, with an ATV and camping equipment totalling 800 lbs of load in the bed.

Re: Gas mileage challenge
Averaging 25 mpg. - it's hard not to stomp on the pedal once & awhile .
Given that, I'll second the Needswing intake: it has for sure added a mile or two per gallon.
A CAI is a mod. that's hard to beat, adds power & mileage.....kinda pays for itself!
...........I'm just too addicted to the whine.........

That is good mileage but notice it is a Limited and not a SRT. I have gotten over 30 with the wife's 04. My best SRT miles was with 65 and cruise. Funny though, on the way back I went through Ohio at 80-90 most all the way and still got 25. I don't know how it's possible but the longer more I drive this beast the more I like it.

Re: Gas mileage challenge
I am not even close. The best mileage I got was just under 20 mpg!!! But I trully done care that I am politically incorrect. I don't get good gas mileage on amy of my vehicles. Excuse me while I pull my foot out of the floorboard. I don't think that a hybrid is in my future but I once said I would never get married again.
Re: Gas mileage challenge
now that I have reset everything, put the needs on, sprint booster....took her out for a one tank trip...my average was rt at 26 mph, but now that I know we are serious...next weekend, I will keep a closer record, and no, I can't resist the whine either....so that does play into the equation...

Re: Gas mileage challenge
I did a 3100 mile trip a few weeks ago through the western mountain states crusing at 80mph most of the time and got and overall trip avg of 23.3 with tanks ranging from 23 to 24 mpg. Had my grandson with me so no great displays of speed, just a few quick passing sprints. Lots of FUN. That was in the un-modded SSB. The Aero would be very different I expect.

If you got 26+ plus out of an SRT6, you get the crown. The best I have been able to do is 24.1 (calculated) - I have a tendency to step on it too often. On the other hand, I completed a MI-CT-MI trip of 2500 miles last month and averaged 28.6 in the roadster. Nothing special other than new K&Ns. And I drove 95% highway, top down, at 70-75.
I know 4 mpg isn't much, but every little bit helps plus I wanted to enjoy the convertible. Next week I'll take a 700 mile RT to WI with the SRT6. If I can avoid the Chicago traffic, I'm sure I can push 25 mpg.

Re: Gas mileage challenge
Wow, great numbers.
I drove the SRT to the mountains on Sunday and it was the first time I have ever checked the mpg. My 04 Limited got 27mpg @84MPH on cruise.
The SRT which has a 185mm pulley intake intercooler and ECU tuning to the max got... only 19.7 with cruise set at 73MPH (hit 100+ while passing several times) and used the air conditioner 1/2 the time off on the way there and on, on the way back.
I was not happy to find that out.
Enjoy the Ride...

Re: Gas mileage challenge
I just drove my SRT-6 home from buying it (581 miles) at 74 mph-steady high way miles and avg. 27.4/gal. I will probably never drive it that far at once again but its nice to know that you can achieve good gas mileage if you use the cruise control instead of my lead foot LOL.
