Default Limp Mode!!

Several times now, my car has gone into limp mode! When I hammer on the car and it shifts from 2 or 3rd gear my car caves into limp mode! I pull over shut it off and restart it, and its good again! Then my check engine light stays on, but if I disconnect my batt cable and put it back on, the check engine light goes out! It has done it about 4 times now! Any ideas whats going on?

Check over on the MB forums - sounds like a tranny 2nd gear limp.

Perhaps a transmission controller issue?

Check the locking electrical connector on the transmission. This happened to me when I had my first crossfire and this check is supposed to be part of the dealer prep checklist.

Are seeing this in only 2-3 shift? High inlet air temp will cause a limp mode also, like issues with the intercooler pump. Woody Enjoy

Thats easy, your taking in a very expensive car to have then do WARRANTY work on the tranny and OBTW you have high performance pulleys to create more power?????????/

If they do notice it, well then you have two issues, one sounds like a smaller number to me. Woody

At what rpm does this occure? Just into third or at high revs?

I think you're doing the right thing. I wouldn't risk the dealership blaming a transmission problem on extra power. Yours is the first SRT6 I've read about with transmission problems. Perhaps it isn't invincible. Good luck, and keep us posted.

The first thing you need to do is scan the ECU and see what the code(s) come up. If you have an Auto Zone in your area, they'll do it for free.

Just do this for me, check the coolant level and tell me that the color is clear, no milky contents. I have had something odd happen to me and with and without my pully the car would lose power. It still ran and if I let off of it it would come back in the next gear.

1st wide open about 5500, droop in power, second gear 5000- 5500 droop, third power up to 4000-5500 droop. Does this sound familiar??

PM me if you wanna. If the above looks like yours you can contact me to understand this. I see that you tried to pass and lost power, but I would like to get more of your details. There is a lot of haten going on with the I/C pumps and Iam trying to get more data to track this and related power losses.''

Woody, Enjoy

The dude is right , get that code before doing all the work, as I believe that your car runs normally without WOT operation?

If I drive the car normal and not get on it, it's fine. But if I floor it and hits redline, then shifts, its going into limp mode! Like it is running on 4 cylinders! Then I have to pull over and shut the engine off and restart it! Then all the power is back, but engine light is on. Then when i get home, I un-hook the battery and hook it back up, and presto the engine light goes out! This has happen about 6 time now! I dont think it has anything to do with I/C pump because this is worse, like the motor is running 4 cylinders and the whole car is shaking! I will keep all of you updated, I dont think I have much of a choice but drop the pulley kit and play dumb at the dealership!

I swapped the pulleys this morning! 35 min job! Drove the car in to the dealship today. The car is staying in limp mode now! They should know more tomorrow. In the mean time they gave me a 2007 Didge Nitro to use. It sure is no SRT, but will do! I will see if I can get a code from them....Wal...

I have had my automatic go into neutral in a hard braking situation and a hard acceleration situation. The braking was not a big deal, but the acceleration was on an expressway on ramp...had to pull over and restart the car. Worked fine ever since.

What you have there is a mis-fire on several cylinders. Usually accompanied by a FLASHING CEL. If this is the case, the codes will confirm.

Maybe the ECU is not seated (sp) properly. When I had the ECU flashed/tuned by LET, I did not get the plugs perfectly put in and it ran very roughat idle and was in "limp mode" with the engine light on. JerryAMG told me to take out the ECU and reinstall it and presto. No more engine light, no more rough idle and no more limp mode.

Today I found out the problem! Two of of my coils went bad. When the car was under load, it would kick into limp mode. The car has 6 coils. I wonder if I'm the only one this has happened too? Now I wait for the parts and hopefully have car back Saturday. I only have 9000 miles on her. I have no idea why they gave out? I hope it has nothing to do with my pulstar plugs.

I'm glad to hear that was all that was wrong. Did you put your pulleys back on yet?

Every-thing is back to normal! Coils 3 & 5 were bad, and they also replaced all the plugs! Swaping the pullys only took me about 25 minn now! The car is kickin *** once again!

Electronic parts can last almost forever or two seconds. When something electronic fails for me, I replace it and forget it. (Unless I see or hear reports of repeated failures.) Glad you got her fixed and running like a top again.
