Who actually drives their SRT-6?
Who actually drives their SRT-6?
I get the whole concept in keeping the miles low on certain cars because of their possible collector nature, but frankly...it's a car...it's made to be driven and the key word there is "possible" collector. I always have a lot more respect for the cars that have been driven then rebuilt back to original. Lots more history and personality.
These guys that have Vipers, Corvettes, Crossfires, etc. and drive them around the block every weekend make me want to hurl.
Anyway, daily driver here...who actually drives their SRT-6 more than 1,000 miles a year?

Re: Who actually drives their SRT-6?
I drive mine on my daily commute, and around town. But, Mutt, I have to
disagree. It is not just a car, it is an experience! I've put over 60k on the
car in less than 4 years, and I hope to put at least another 190k on it before
I put a new motor in it. So, I'm putting a little more than 16k miles on the
car each year. Still just as sweet as when I took the first drive out of the
dealer's show room.

I collect cars not coins. I don't have much time to drive my car except when I go to the track. It does get hand washed and babied, but that's just to get the rubber off of the wheel wells. I think it's a waste to have such a great sports car and drive it everyday and never get a chance to really enjoy it on a track. Whether your like turns or a straight line. Get out and drive it like an AMG it is.

Just curious.
Re: Who actually drives their SRT-6?
My SRT-6 is my only car for now (I plan on getting a used Forrester XT or Caliber SRT4 at some point). I drive about 8 to 9 miles per day total and average about 8,000 to 9,000 miles per year. I don't have a garage at my house (assigned parking spaces out front), unfortunately, so she'll be getting a wash a couple times a month and a monthly wax with a couple clay bar treatments per year. My 2000 Trans Am was never garaged and the finish still looked good as new at 99k, so I'm hoping to keep up the same standard with the SRT.
I prefer to drive the cars that I own. I get why collectors collect and appreciate, and to each his own, I just feel that cars are made to be driven and cared for, then when the time comes, ripped down and rebuilt. I completely agree that an older rebuilt car has much more character than a well preserved model of the same year.

I run mine after work all the time, except when its off the road to get mods or loaded up the trailer for the weekend Autocross runs.
I always believe that its a TOY and you have to play with it, some save their toy cause they are afraid it might get broke.
Enjoy Woody

Re: Who actually drives their SRT-6?
Mine hasn't been driven in a month.
It is my warm weather, sunny day car.
Though I have been contemplating driving it daily from May through the end of September every year.
Currently, if there is more than a 20% chance of rain, it stays in the garage.
I've put 2,500 miles on it in a little over a year and a half.

Re: Who actually drives their SRT-6?
I drive them carefully - but I definitely drive them and enjoy them. No point in having them if they sit in the garage. Maybe they'll be worth money some day but at the rate the globe is burning through oil, no one will be able to afford to drive them in 20 years.
I do detail them at least monthly, usually keep them covered in the garage, and take them off the road for the Michigan winter. I intend to keep them as close to new looking as I can while still driving them regularly.

Re: Who actually drives their SRT-6?
I have two and I drive them both. Not lots as I also have a Dodge Intrepid for most daily chores. The Aero has 23k and is being modded so I can go even faster when I pass and to try my hand at the 1/4. The SSB has 5500 miles on it and 3100 was on my vacation two weeks ago. It will not be driven more than once a week now. I am contemplating selling the SSB to lower my monthly output. I say drive it and have some FUN!
