short in car?
short in car?
i have a completly stock srt-6 coupe. the other day i was driving and my pump went out. since its my daily i have to continue using the car until the dealership gets the pump in. so i used my car and when i went to park it right before i was going to turn the car off. all the electronics shut off. and came right back on. but it reset everything. i was a little freaked out so i just shut the car down and let it cool thinking maybe it was from the pump(i know it doesnt really make sense but to my knowledge its the only thing wrong with the car) so i got back in it to drive to the store and the BAS ESP light was on and i parked it at the store and when i came out and started it up everything was reset again(clock) but the BAS ESP light was off. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY CAR???
Re: short in car?
I don't believe the pump should be causing this. There was a thread a while back about a bad fuse block I think. It was more of the circuit board behind the fuses in the engine compartment. Some had battery problems when this was shorting out. I'll see if I can find that thread. Other than that I don't remember anyone else having electrical problems that weren't related to that or a heat seater going out.
Re: short in car?
yeah my seat heater went out a while ago but i got that fixed and havent had problems that was weeks ago. i know there is no way the pump would do it. but it seems so odd that once that goes out i continue to come out to the car and the clock is reset or i have the BAS ESP light on. i dont understand what is going on. especially since the only thing that isnt stock on the car is i have my engine cover off . im so confused. ive checked all the fuses and they seem to be ok.
thanks for the quick response!

Re: short in car?
Ok, not sure if it's related but when most had either no start or shorts it was the relay control module. The contacts go bad and cause all sorts of problems. It points to everything else but comes down to the contacts are corroding. There are some pics of one opened up somewhere on the forum. Hope this helps.

Re: short in car?
If you do take it out, you can have someone start the car and tap on like the member did and see if you car cuts out. Or you might be able to see some burn marks underneath. The traces are those copper lines running under the fuses. It won't shock you, just be sure not to hit any metal with it or you might short it out as well.
Re: short in car?
Thanks so very much for your help with this one, cruzin! I'll bet Voyager feels much more comfortable about bringing his vehicle in now, thanks to your able clarifications.
At its best, this is what this forum is really all about -- members generously helping other members with problems or with suggestions for improvements and new mods. And we need some kind of special recognition when someone goes so far to offer critical assistance, as cruzin did here and others have done before. To all of you, "thanks again" so much for your wonderful contributions! That attitude is precisely why this forum continues to be so great, so friendly and so useful.

Maxxm,
Thanks for the kind words. I wouldn't be having as much fun with my car if I hadn't discovered this forum. I probably would have taken it back in the first 30 days with all the problems I had. I hope it helps Voyager solve his problem. I'm happy to pay it forward.

Re: short in car?
yeah cruzin you seriously have made me feel much more comfortable about my car. i was extremely confused since my car is stock and didnt really think something should be shorting out. and never would have been able to find the relay control module on the search or in the engine bay itself. i greatly appreciate it. i hope the problem was just some random surge and its gone now. or it was in fact the control module. the car is under warranty (the main reason why i keep it stock) so it shouldnt be a big deal getting it fixed
Re: short in car?
Your very welcome. The first 30 days of owning mine was full of surprises. I was fortunate to find the forum and get the dealer to solve my problems with help from here. I bought mine is August 07 with 212 miles and now have 2500 miles. So lots of warranty left, but I added a pulley and needswings intake to make driving that much more fun. You can also disconnect the negative battery cable for 20 minutes or 2 hours and reset the car. I did this after my pulley, intake, and pump install.

You beat me to it, and probably a lot more eloquent than I. Posts like Cruizinquick's are truly the best part of the forum website.
