After months of owning an SRT-6, I finally got the chance to race a real car. From my understanding the car was an 04 GTO so it had an LS1 5.7L engine rated at 350hp. From 35 MPH to 100 I could see him like 4 car lengths behind me so I slowed down thinking he missed a shift or something because I knew those things are very fast, but he was really trying so I hear his engine and I press the "warp speed" button and he didn't even get the lead, we were very close(me 1st) up until 120mph when we both slowed the hell down. But remember I slowed down at 100mph to see if his even trying and he WAS so when I stepped on it the car pulled like I was about to go back in time or something(from right under 100mph), he couldn't even pass me
Well the guy was driving a yellow GTO, so I don't feel bad... I bet he didn't even know what he was racing my stock srt-6 roadster made my day better

 

He knows now!! Still kickin' myself for buying a limited.

I have raced a few GTO's at the track and even with DR's they lost. I had a woman the other day in a 6.0 one trying to mess with me but I did not want to waste the gas.

 

I have a great run on video with a gto at the track. I need to figure out how to get it online. The gto was completely modded with new internals and block work, headers, and everything else but spray. Sounded great and ran strong was with me the whole way down. I ended beating him by a nose and he even got the hole shot. We ran low 12.8's that day. I ran him again and blew him away.

 

I killed a newer C6 Vette ragtop the other day he tried to stay up with me on the 101 Fwy he never did catch me until I let up the pedal. I'm glad I had my new Code3 SC pulley.

Nothing feels better than blowing a $80,000 911 Porsche Cabriolet S's doors off! The guy was shocked and dismayed. Embarrassed too! Wouldn't even look at me at the next light. He actually backed up, moved into the turning lane, and took off. Funny indeed!

On a side note.....I have this dude I see quite often going to and from work in an 08 audi TT. The thing is, he always tries and show off his car and what it can do in traffic. He'll cut in front of me and floor it and cut back over into the other lane in front of another car! I'm thinking to myself, "is this guy serious?!" I wish I could get some open road. This guy has no idea what he would be getting into traffic blows......

 

I've raced guys like that, and they are dangerous. He'd probably pull in front of you if he saw you coming up fast. screw those swishy Audi punks!

 

I used to have an audi TT 225... And most of them know the srt-6 is a monster...the educated ones and they will stay back unless they have a big turbo upgrade ...

 

Yes, those GTO's a very heavy, so the power to weight really hurts them compared to our much lighter cars.

 

Yeah, I hear you......One thing I DO NOT do is race in and out of traffic! It's just not worth the chance......

Very possible! My daughters 2000 C5 with a Vararam CAI and Cat-Back BBB Bullet exhuast was spanked by dad the ther day (my bad,,nit a good example huh?<G>)! She..and..I were surprised! In case ya'll missed my intro (new guy): I totalled a Lingenfelter 383 500HP Vette and bought a Pearl Aero Blue SRT6 ragtop with 4k on the Odo! I loved my last 2 Vettes..but Gawd..at times I really hated them too! I;ve had quite a few AMG's in the past, incl. a C43 AMG; C32 AMG; and last..an E55 AMG..till Vette fever took over! When I beat her from a dig she was really freaked out!<G> I really love being back in an AMG! Like driving a small bank vault filled with wonderfull sounding precision German machinery (I was born un Bremen Germany)! Good kill! Otto

I raced a 5.7 GTO tonight at the track and slaughterd it. Best I saw him run was a 14.2. I put bus lengths on him with my 13.0 an his horrible reaction time.

 

This is the smartest comment made in this thread so far. First, I'll say that in the past I've been guilty of racing on the street. Thankfully, I've outgrown that now and haven't done since I was about 20.

I just find it ironic that some of the people in this thread from a while back that are tearing down a kid for driving drunk and cutting donuts with his Dad's car:

Are the same people who think it's OK or cool to street race. As far as safety for yourself or more importantly the safety of others, it's just six of one and half dozen of the other IMHO. You still run the risk of killing yourself or somone else because of your stupidity.

If you want to race your car, please do.. but keep it at the track.

 

I think it depends how mature you are. I rarely if at all speed when I'm driving my everyday cars. My srt6 is not my daily driver so the temptation is not there, like some of you. I had a mustang gt when I was like 16, and raced every chance I got. I wish I knew then that race tracks were so friendly and the safe place to race. I mastered that 5spd, or so I thought. I'm lucky to be alive today, I had some very close calls. It's hard to resist, and harder when your driving a car you know is way faster than most common sports cars on the road, especially if your pullied and intaked.
