Black grill with a twist, for your view
Black grill with a twist, for your view
I enjoyed the black grill article but it was not exactly what I was looking for but it motivated me.
This week end I installed the 181 mm pulley but had to stop because they shipped me the wrong size water pump pulley so I had time on my hands....idle hands and it is really raining so...
I had the grill off to do the heat exchanger so it took me about 3 minutes to mask off the grill with painters tape. I suggest you just throw it on and dont worry about the edge. After the tape is on, push a finger nail into the seam between the trim and grill body. You can see the xacto knife that I used to cut the tape making a really sharp seam line.
Next I painted it in satin; as flat holds bugs crud and dirt and looks poorly too soon. When dry I popped off the tape and stuck the grill back on and took several more photos to document the LOOK.
Whatta think? If you like it, the effort is a 5/16 nut driver to pull the grill, tape and the rattle can. You will want to clean the grill before you paint to prevent fish eye defects in the paint due to left-over wax / dirt.
Enjoy. I'll do the pulley / stat /zenon lamps (HID) article later when its fully on the road.

Also check this older thread from almost two years ago: "New Look for Less." It's a similar approach that lots of members have been using.
