Default Replaced IC pump, car still sluggish!?!

I was having the same sluggish problems with my car that everyone here seems to have had at some point. I just replace my IC pump today with a Johnson pump, reset the computer, and nothing changed. The car still feel perfectly fine after the reset until I floor the gas and it falls on it's face, performance wise, and then does the thing where you have to push the gas pedal half way down to get it moving from a stop.

What the heck is going on with the car? I was almost positive that the IC pump replacement would have fixed it, but it didn't.

I remember reading something about replacing the air temp sensor and the computer module, something along those lines.

I need some help here!

Are you sure the new pump is running? You could have a blown fuse due to the old pump's failure.

I can hear mine with the engine off and the key turned... at least I think it's the s/c pump if not I have something buzzing under the hood...

You may well have air in the pump as a result of the install. That could result in the effect you are encountering. The system needs to be 'burped'. Probably worth a try.

Sure it's not the fuel pump?

I would be willing to bet you need to prime your pump. if you have air in the line/pump it will not work.

I will check the fuse under the hood to see if it's blown, but last time I checked it, it wasn't blown. If I put my hand on the Johnson pump while the car is running, would I be able to feel it working?

How to I get the air out of the system or "Burp" the system?

You should try clearing the drive-by-wire history. I do it some times to fix the acceleration problem.

You should be able to feel it running once the car is up to temperature. To prime the pump, you could release the outlet hose carefully allowing the fluid to flow out for a second. If nothing comes out, take the pick-up hose and force some coolant through it. First, just see if coolant is flowing. If it is, you have other issues.

Your supercharger clutch may be failing. Are you still under warranty? If so, have your dealer test the clutch.

It may be your air pump, I've never heard my intercooler pump run, but I know it is, as the car screams.

Which outlet hose? The one from the pump to the heat exchanger or is there another outlet hose. I will do it tomorrow and let you know what I find out.

I have an appointment Monday for the dealer to look at it since I think it could be the supercharger clutch. I have a warentee on it, so it wouldn't cost me much of anything to have it looked at, just time without my car.

are they going to void your warranty because you have an aftermarket pump?

Doubt it. Its a warentee through Carmax and I can just say it was the one one the car when I bought it since it has 29k miles on it and they don't really check things like that

Ok, I went out and checked and once the car is at temp, I can feel the IC pump working and can feel coolant flowing through the outlet hose. No fuses are blown either.

I took it for a ride and the 2 things I noticed is that just driving the car hard, but not at wide open throttle, the car just feels like any old V6.

The second thing I noticed is that when I go WOT, and the kickdown button is engauged, thats when the car falls on it's face and it starts doing the sluggish acceleration thing and you have to put the gas half down to get the car to move from a stop.

Any other ideas?

I'm thinking it could be the SC clutch and something electrically wrong.

Mine has done the sluggish thing only if I'm in 1st about 4500-5000 rpm and rolling then floor it WOT and bam, falls on it's face, but I don't let off and it takes a second and takes off like crazy. It may be something to do with the rev limiter or ???. Only in first gear, second gear at that same scenario is normal. I changed my pump already to. Thought it was my pump too, I think when the pump fails the car doesn't even have any giddy up. Mine still did, but thought the pump would fix it. The main difference is that my car doesn't run like an old v6, it still runs very strong. So maybe the sc clutch might be a new problem for the six. Keep us posted, I think it will be very hard to diagnose, or maybe the supercharger will get replaced like some of the other guys on here have had done.

Are you sure your checking the right pump? There are 2 pumps one of them is for the heater, which is below the passenger side headlight that looks like a intercooler pump. The intercooler pump is down lower near the bottom corner of the radiator.

I noticed that too, but are you sure they are the same type. The heater pump looks a little smaller. Plus it's alot harder to get to without removing the front bumper. If they are the same, that would be an easy swap if your pump went out, and you don't need a heater for a while.

I think they're different. I was just checking that he wasn't confusing it for the intercooler pump.
