Default Stolen SRTs

I'm not trying to bring up such a bad topic but I live in New Jersey and I do get concerned about the safety of my SRT6. For the most part I'm not too concerned but there have been many reports of stolen cars around my area which tend to highten my awareness of the threat of someone stealing my car. For instance, at a mall near me in the past three or so months at least 14 Subaru STI's and a bunch of Evo's have been stolen right out of the parking lot. They cut the sercurity systems, flat bed them, and leave. I know our cars do not have such a high market for parts like the STI and the Evo's do but I still can't help but be afraid. My real question is do are cars get stolen very often? I haven't heard of any being stolen but if anyone knows of any instances where our cars were stolen or went through it themselves it helped me a lot to know.

Personally, I've never heard of a XFire being stolen. I think our make of vehicle is so rare and hard to find that car thieves pass on stealing them. Professional thieves are not joy riders. They are in the used parts trade and look for cars to strip and easily move the parts as soon as possible. They don't want the stolen goods to hang around too long which could lead to their discovery.

Until there is a rash of stolen XFire reports, take Bobby McFerrin's advice: "Don't worry, be happy!"

I've never heard of a xfire being stolen either. These are pretty hard cars to steal. But, if someone wants something bad enough, they generally find a way to get it.

Do you park your xfire outside all the time?

I am just acrossed the Turnpike from you in East Brunswick. I also haven't heard of Crossfire theft problems but I do know you need to be very careful in the parking lot of the MetroPlex on route 1 south in New Brunswick. Several people have had radios, stuff and damage while in the theater.

I didn't know another SRT was close to me. We'll have to meet up sometime soon.

I don't think they steal them because of reliability. Who wants to be in a high speed escape from the coppers and have the IC pump fail. Or the seat stop heating. LOL

Two reasons for stealing cars: parts and joy riding. I don't think there is much demand for parts and if you lock it and leave it in a well lit place, the latter should not be a problem.

Physically, they are pretty easy to steal. The Alarm is probably harder to get past. To steal one, all you need is a wire hanger to grab the door handle inside( I've had to do it). Then use the Transmission Lock out Override to put it in neutral and off you go with either a flat bed or a sling truck. With 2 people it would only take 5 seconds to get the hood open and cut the power so the alarm stops.

But, I wouldn't worry about it. They aren't very desirable to anyone other than those of us that have them, whether they be buyers or criminals...

If you're worried, buy an Autolock X and use it when it's parked in a higher theft area. You can get it off their web site (Unbreakable Autolock) or they sell them at Autobarn. They really are tough to drill/cut off, and with it locked around the brake pedal I don't think the transmission can be shifted out of park even using the lock-out override tool. When not in use it can fit in the space behind the passenger seat.

Small f/up on our alarms! As I read the shop manual, our alarms are battery back-up within it's sealed compartment. Cutting wires to the alarm activates the battery power within & keeps the siren pulses alive. If left alone after the battery back-up takes over, the siren will pulse for 3 min. & shut off as it does with 12 V power applied. It would take a bit of time to remove the wiper arm cover to gain access to the siren area, then the rechargeable battery pwr. is still enclosed within the siren. Correct me if I'm wrong! Thks

its not happeneing... but they might do some damage to it... spit, key, shred the tires.. these kinds of things on the other hand are common... for the crossfire

Theifs just don't gravitate to these kinds of cars.. they are very noticeable and have very small prdouction numbers.. relative to the cars that they want.. they want high production vehicles because that way they can strip and distribute the car parts quickly, but this is not going to work with the crossfire... older cars are targeted because their easier to steal and there is a greater demand for parts on them and many owners of these older vehicles prefer not to purchase new parts from the dealers...

Look here at a list of top ten stolen vehicles in United States in 2005 and see how close the Crossfire is to any of these vehicles
  1. 1991 Honda Accord
  2. 1995 Honda Civic
  3. 1989 Toyota Camry
  4. 1994 Dodge Caravan
  5. 1994 Nissan Sentra
  6. 1997 Ford F150 Series
  7. 1990 Acura Integra
  8. 1986 Toyota Pickup
  9. 1993 Saturn SL
  10. 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

I'm guessing by the MetroPlex on route 1 your talking about the Lowes theaters right. I'm about fifteen minutes away from there more towards Rutgers. I just recently got my SRT so thats probably why you didn't know i was around, but we should meet up one day when the weather starts to get warmer. This middle weather between warm and cold isn't my favorite.

Yes that is what I meant. I have only been there a few times when they first opened and now with DVD's, plasma's and surroundsound I go to very few movies. After my body work repair from the sideswipe and a new IC pump on tuesday we'll have to meet up. I'm embarassed for members to see the scrapes in person.

As far as parts go there's not enough of a market for them to risk being caught.

Joyriders would stay away from a car that stands out like a Crossfire!
