Looking at buying SRT6
Looking at buying SRT6
This isn't my first post but, as most forum tradition dictates, I should introduce myself before asking advice on the SRT6. As the title indicates, I haven't purchased the vehicle (yet) as I'm trying to think through my options before buying. I hope nobody gets mad at me but I'm one of those people who thought the Crossfire was an ugly car. I don't know what's changed but for some reason I really like the car now (particularly the SRT6). There are two kinds of vehicle I like; ones you rarely see on the road and sleepers. For example, my "family car" is a 06 Chevy Trailblazer SS, it's got to be one the fastest bricks on the planet! This is another reason I like the SRT, it's sporty yet reserved.
Well, don't mean to bore you all to death so back to the title...I'm looking for an SRT6, preferably convertible but will be happy with a coupe as well. Color isn't really important but price is. I've seen prices range from 18.5 to 27k for the 05's (dealerships only). So if any of you east coast/south eastern crossfire owners see an SRT in your local paper, at the dealership, etc. Let me know. I do daily searches on autotrader, cars.com and various craiglist listings.
Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. Oh, and WHEN I get this car I'll post here to "close the loop." Thanks again!

Re: Looking at buying SRT6
They are great cars.
Very rare, powerful, and have a cult following.
Only 4 colors of SRT6s were made:
Black, Aero Blue, Gray, Sapphire Silver Blue.
All SRT6s have auto transmissions as do all Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles (which is what this car is, just has a Karmann built, Chrysler designed body on it). Same hand built 3.2L AMG engine as the MB C32/SLK32.
The Chrysler badge and Chrysler's flop at marketing these vehicles are why they are worth 50% or less than they were 3 years ago.
Only 2,016 SRT6 Coupes and 928 SRT6 Roadsters were produced.
Good luck in your search.

Re: Looking at buying SRT6
When I first saw the Crossfire 5 years ago at the autoshow, I found the coupe interesting but not fantastic. I much prefer the shape of the roadster, esp with the top down. Having said that, I picked up my SRT6 and after lovingly waxing it last night, I find the lines growing on me. Maybe it's the whalefin spoiler (reminds me of a Porsche Turbo Carrera a little), but it's a very attractive car.
Hit autotrader.com and kbb.com and look for vehicles as far as you're willing to travel. Strike quickly - I think the word is starting to get out about how much of a bargain they are and prices are sure to steady or rise in the spring. You should be able to find a relatively low mileage coupe in the $18-22k range. Regardless of what forum members say, I don't consider these winter vehicles.
