Default Lower gas Mileage...why?

Hello

Three weeks ago I installed my Sprint Booster and K&N filters. The lack of throttle lag was remarkable just as predicted (thanks TVT for the group buy!) Unfortunately what I have noticed since then is that my gas mileage is starting to slide downward. Where I used to average 22 highway and 19 city now at best I get 19/17. I am not driving the car any more crazy then I did before the mods. Would a sloppy install of the filters be a culprit? Having too much fun with the sprint booster? To add to the mix I have also noticed after the car warms up that my acceleration on the highway is sluggish. Pressing the throttle to pass does not give me the same boost in power I recall when I first purchased the car (I've had it for one year and put on 25 K). Could an failing IC Pump have something to do with the mileage? Can the pump have intermittant power failure or when it dies its inactive 24/7?
Thanks as always.

Try a throttle reset...

The Throttle is "Drive By Wire" and adapts to your particular driving
style. Do a TBA Throttle body adaptation.

1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.

2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter
turns over.

3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position.

4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back
to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas
pedal.

5. Wait 2 mins. for a full alignment.

6. Drive the car as you always do.

Depending on your driving style, this may or may not be a big factor. I do a lot of city driving so
I noticed a big change after erasing my history. It is not hard to do this, just follow the instructions -

Key on, pedal down, 5 sec, key off pedal up, wait 2 minutes.

Keep the key in for the entire thing.

If this doesn't work, disconnect your neg. battery cable for 20 minutes. This will re-set the parameters in the drive-by-wire... Unfortunately it will delete your pre-set radio stations, clock etc. as well...

Hey Gary

THanks for the suggestion. I'm curious: since I have a SPRINT BOOSTER installed is the throttle reset necessary?

Regardless, I'll try the reset anyway.

Lower outside temperatures + short trips = lower gas mileage.

I agree. THe problem is that I am driving the same distances as last year during this season and yet the mileage is off.

The lack of power on the highway sounds like the IC pump is starting to fail. Contact LET Motorsport and get an upgraded pump.

Good idea. I have been thinking about that, including getting the heat exchanger. My question is if using the Johnson pump would void the warranty. I still have 10K miles left on that sucker.

It should not void the warranty. Most techs won't even know the difference IMO.

The pump is located behind the front bumper in an area that is out of sight unless bumper is removed. There are very FEW warranty covered repairs that would involve removing the bumper and even then I don't think a Chrysler tech could tell the difference between stock and aftermarket pumps.

Thanks for the advice guys. Then the Johnson IC it is! I know the acceleraiton sluggisness should be solved with the new IC but how about the low gas mileage? Anyone else out there have a lower gas mileage after they installed the SPRINT BOOSTER? How about the K&N filters - could I have a leak somewhere in the filter cover?

Maybe it's just me, but I did the turn the key to the on position without starting the car, held the gas pedal to the floor for five seconds, turned the key to the off position but didn't pull it out of the ignition for at least two minutes, and now my XFire seems to be more responsive as I step on the accelerator.

I can feel a difference. The throttle seems to respond a wee bit quicker. Could that possibly be, or am I imagining this?

Another question: I purchased my XFire with 6000 miles on it. Is there an easy way to tell if the previous owner may have installed the Sprint Booster or did the ECU tune?

THe throttle reset is not an illusion. It worked for me before I installed the SPRINT BOOSTER. I don't know much about the ECU tune but regarding the SPRINT BOOSTER you probaly need to look behind the throttle to see if one is installed. Do a search on "SPRINT BOOSTER installation" in this forum. You will find several wonderful and infromation how-to guides that other members have put together. Personally I prefer removing the side panel: its faster.
