I was told if you put the Johnson pump in. it voids the warranty.

I went ahead and changed to a Johnson Pump at 7,000 miles. My stock pump was working fine, but from what I read on the forum, it is not a matter of “if” the stock pump will fail but more like “when”. I wanted to change mine when I felt like it not when the car made me! It was a fairly easy install and well worth the piece of mind it brought me. I have only put 1,000 miles on the Johnson.

A little off topic, but what is the turnaround time on those heat exchangers? I ordered mine almost 3 weeks ago.

Has anybody published an illustrated guide to changing your IC pump? Is this a do-it-yourself project or is it best left for the pros?

I know I wouldn't be tackling this job. But I'm autotarded....

I asked my brother about this and he seems to think it would a very tedious task. He's not sure about the crossfire though.

Im an autotard as well, but im learning. Probably the most important thing i've learned is to have a good set of tools, the right tools, and a nice place to work. From what ive seen, the ic pump doesnt seem like too hard of a job, But I didn't even know where the pump was located until a falling rock tore into my front bumper and made a hole right where the pump was. There are a few write ups on the site for both the pump and heat exchanger. Once my HE arrives I will be installing it along with the pump and I may do a detailed write up for dummies, with pictures.

This thread has many write-ups, including the IC Pump and HE.

Bump! I'm one of those "others." I'd like to know that too.

Thanks in advance.

You have to take the connector off your IC pump and wire it to your Johnson. (pun intened).

That's why I moved my Johnson - - so I could have easy access. I'll never have to drop the bumper or reach into a wheel well again.

Hey guys, How do you know that the pump is failing?

Serious, what is your indications? Does it not run and not pump??????

There are many causes that cause the S/C to shut off and NOSE DIVE.

The pump cools the intercooler and if the IAT is too high it will retard the motors power.

I am seriously wondering if the pump is the actual cause. I believe that there is more at work here and everyone may be suffering from Grays Antomy disease? I cant spell but it relates to beliving a preceived diagnosis because it fits the symptoms of the student in med school.

Lets get a data bank going for these pump failures and replacements to see what shakes out. Is this real or something else disguised as a pump.

Reason: every one that has pulled theirs reports that it was a good spare ( that I am aware of), Including me, when I THOUGHT THAT I HAD A PUMP PROBLEM. That is why I did the autopsy on my pump and posted it. Send me your old ones and Ill study them if you like.

Woody, Enjoy.

Well that is a bit of information, and I would love to get some of these pumps to study. I also want to inspect for film build-up on the impeller.

I have been fighting several issues with heat and the shutting down thing in addition to the throttle body sensor going bongo.

Enjoy, Woody

The thing I find unusual is that the recirc pump from the NA Crossfire is exactly the same as the IC pump from the SC car and I have yet to hear of one failure of the recirc pump. Odd !

My Limited didn't have an intercooler or a re-circulating pump.

Are you talking about the little cabin heater pump? - Two different pumps.

You have your N/A apart, could you take a picture and post the part number?

Yes, the heater recirc pump Bosch PAA 12v part #0392020026 it has the same specs as the IC pump. Here's a photo alongside the Johnson.
