Has anyone put the N/A shocks on an SRT to soften it up?

Wow; I never thought the ride was bad to begin with. I think the best thing to do is drive over to the Lotus dealer and take an Elise for a spin. Once you're done driving that you'll LOVE how smooth and soft the SRT suspension feels.

That may be fun to do, anyways.

Soften the shocks and you'll lower the car's cornering ability and general
handling. If you wanted a soft ride, why did you buy a high performance
sports car? Personally, I would perfer a stiffer ride.

I agree and I like your choice of SRT color.

I don't see where he wants a 'soft' ride, he is looking for a 'softer' ride.
I don't see where this is a request to ridicule.
From most accounts it sounds like the N/A cars handle pretty good, I think it would be a logical starting point. There are many cars that have the power and handling of the STR6 but ride a little 'softer', I believe the SLK32 AWG is one of them.

You should really look at springs rather than shocks. The shocks just smooth out the work that the spings do. Your best bet would be an air-bag setup.

I bought the car for it's unique look and straight ahead speed not for the cornering.....Air bags sound like a logical answer, thanks alot friend!!!!!

Hi Mike. One of the troubles with the written word is the lens through
which the reader views the text. It is hardly ever the same lens through
which the writer was viewing his/her thoughts as they were put to paper.
There was no ridiclue in my question. It was a valid question, that was
answered by the original poster just after your response to my message.
He purchased the car for its "unique looks and straight ahead speed, not
its cornering ability". Here's a question for you, MIke (and no ridicule is
intended)... have you every driven and SLK 32 AMG? I have, and the ride
was no softer than the SRT-6. Of course, that could just be that my a**
meter isn't sensitive enough to tell the difference between the two cars.

The point of my question was to ascertain whether the original poster
bought the car for its intended purpose, or for the other purpose to
which it is also fairly well suited (road racing or strip racing). As this
person has answered as noted, and as there are several production cars
which are quicker in a straight line, I can only assume that the most
pressing attribute of the car was the "unique" looks. I can certainly stand
behind that decision.

So, Mike, I would ask you... before you assume the intent of the writer,
please take a moment to read a post more closely, and ask yourself when
you believe another is being trite, could the writer's intent have been
different than what my current frame of mind colors the reading with?

Good luck to you, Mike.

redlinedrummer, thanks for your answer. As there are other production
cars that are quicker in a straight line, I am going to assume that the
strongest reason for you to have bought the SRT-6 was the "unique look".
I can certainly understand that point of view. Before the SRT-6 came out,
I thought the Crossfire had the best looks of any new car I had seen in
about 30 years. I had also thought the car was severly under powered for
its looks. But, as I really liked the "unique look", I was ready to purchase a
limited. It was just my luck, that as I was coming ready (financially) to
buy, the SRT-6 became available.

Good luck with your plan to "soften" the ride. Not what I would be looking
for, but to each their own. Be sure to let us know what steps you take to
achieve the goal, as well as letting us know how well you like the result.

also, wouldn't a high-end air bag system allow to adjust the pressure so that ou can have the best of both worlds? A soft ride most of the time, but stiffen them up when you want better handling? Via some kind of switch in the car and on-board compressor.

My point exactly, read the posts more closely, 'smoother ride' is not equal to 'soft ride'. Smoother is relative, soft is absoulute.
Don't take this next statement personal, it is just an example of how it seems to me your post sounded:
'If you don't like people responding truthfully to your posts why did you join a forum?' Now doesn't that sound like a criticism? I'll bet most people would miss-interpret my meaning of 'truthfully' as an absolute where I intended it as relative to MY take on the comment and not judgmental at all.
You focused the 'camera' when you wrote the comment, the reader can only interpret the picture. If I interpreted you wrong than I appologize, it just READ as a defensive position to me, could have been 'smoother' in my slanted opinion.

As far as SLK32, never drove OR rode in one. Just trusting what I have read here and in comparisons elsewhere on the internet, so ya, that comment was hearsay, but I believe accurate nonetheless. If there is any one common gripe about the SRT6 from the many road tests done it is the harshness of the ride, wouldn't you agree?

No harm, No foul

That is exactly what I was going to say, if you do not want a sports car and sports car handling then why did you buy a sports car? Did you not test drive the car before you bought it? I hear that a Buick Century rides nice and soft, maybe that is an option for you lol

You can get taller sidewalls (move to 17" wheels and tires with a taller sidewall) and that will help some.

I did change my springs to stock LTD springs and the ride didn't change much! I did try seeing the difference of the stock shocks vs the SRT6 shock and the visual difference is a longer travel on the stock ones about an inch and a 1/4 but the shocks feel very close to the same stiff ride and I'm waiting for my konis to arrive ! Some SRT6 owners have said the ride improved with konis with stock springs! I believe it's the shocks and not the spring! that make it ride rough.

Probably the most dramatic difference you'll see w/o breaking the bank on suspension parts/installation. 45 series tires on 17's would be an acceptable fit and there are a number of inexpensive 45 series tires that ride pretty softly. Check the reviews on tire rack. Worse case if you don't like the 17" wheels/tires, you can always just sell them on EBay.

very true!! i drove a cady cts for a few days, it was my friends. it rode just "like a cady", very smooth, then he put low-profile tires on it (about the same series as the x-fire), rode like crap.

Kind of like the new Bose suspension system employed on new models. uses sounds wave to predict bumps in the road to continually adjust firmness and stiffness for just the right situation. Has some kind of magnetic gelatinous goo which softens and stiffens with current applied??
