will it hurt anything to drive the car IF the ic pump is out?
i figure bad gas mileage, no power.

Good Luck on getting those jerks at" Harry Lane Chrysler" to believe you and know what it takes to fix it. You might want to order the pump and do it yourself.

No, it won't hurt the engine to drive with an in-op IC pump.

If you find the acceleration really sluggish then use the autostick to drop the tranny down a gear. When my supercharger clutch went out my car would maintain speed but would accelerate very slowly until I used the autostick.

I drove with no intercooler one night about two weeks ago, it was cold though, mid 40's so I figured it would be alright. I attempted to race my friends modded Ls1 and pulled him all the way to 100 mph until my car engaged some kind of speed limiter at 100. I brlieve it was due to the lack of an intercooler. Normal driving you should be fine, but stay out of boost until you get it fixed to be safe. I think the car will protect itself via ECU or clutch mechanism, but just take it easy until it's fixed.

You're right that the ECU will protect the engine. There is an inlet air temperature probe that, not surprisingly, measures the temperature of the compressed air coming off the supercharger. If this air charge gets too warm then the ECU will disengage the supercharger clutch to stop the supercharger, ultimately preventing continued air compression (and further heating) of the air charge.

Huudoo can drive his car to the hilt with a bad IC pump as long as his electronics work correctly and his supercharger disengages when necessary. In reality I'd be concerned about losing power when it's really needed so would also suggest careful and easy driving until the problem is fixed.

I wonder what's really going on when the supercharger disengages and there is a complete lack of power. In theory the SRT-6s should act like NA Crossfires and still pull, only not as strongly. I get the impression that the ECU is holding the car back because it expects HP from the engine with the gas pedal depressed, but when it senses no power from the engine it gets confused and goes into something like a limp mode.

Has any of you driven a N/A crossfire to compare?

yes i did before i drove the srt-6 , and this seems par for the course ic pump issues
power ok 1-4 then boggggg's down.. at higher speeds the rpm's climb's but not much power... seems less than a stock / limited crossfire.

Today I picked my car up from the dealer for the hard-start issue. To get to the dealer, we took my buddies SRT-6 Roadster who has ASP Pullies AND I/C pump issues.

It took his car approximately 7 seconds to climb to 80mph from 65mph.
It took my car (stock SRT coupe) approximately 3 seconds (it's tough to gauge when it is just a few seconds).

My old limited XFire was much quicker than his SRT with an in-op pump at HIGHWAY speeds...but his car in the city is still fairly quick.

Are you sure this wasn't due to a transmission adaptation issue? My car was doing something similar until I performed the reset procedure. It improved greatly, but still accelerates quicker when using auto stick. Can you tell us more about your specific problem. That's the last thing I want is a bad SC clutch. When I use the manual mode, the car is a rocket ship. If I'm cruising on the freeway in OD, and punch it (not all the way to the floor), sometimes it just stays in that gear without down shifting itself. Obviously, the car will accelerate slowly if it stays in a high gear like over drive. Automatics still are a bit of a mystery to me. This is the first one I've ever had. I still like to throw the car into whatever gear I want it in and when I want it there.

It wasn't the transmission adapting to my driving style since I had my car for over a year prior.

My supercharger clutch first starting failing when I was doing 50 - 60 MPH so I first thought that it was the IC pump since a pump failure had the same results per the forum. After a couple of days the clutch failed completely. Now when it failed while cruising I would floor the pedal but the car would not or only very slowly accelerate. The clutch failed one time when going up a hill and I was able to maintain my current speed with no problem - I just couldn't accelerate. I also had no problem accelerating from a stop when the clutch failed.

There are a couple of things at play here. One of course is the adapting transmission. Another is that the supercharger doesn't engage until 2500 RPM or thereabouts. So when you are cruising on the highway and hit the gas a little, it's possible that you are still under 2500 RPM. Now I don't know if the ECU will engage the supercharger below 2500 if you stomp on the gas but from what I've noticed in my car is that it won't. A forum member also posted that there is a bit of a dead spot between 40 50 MPH so this could also account for the lack of acceleration.

Being below 2500 RPM pretty much puts the SRT-6 at the same power level of a NA Crossfire from a standstill. And I had no problem accelerating at the lower RPMs. So what I think is happening is that if a supercharger fails below 2500, the ECU doesn't know it and there is no restrictions put on the car. Above 2500 the ECU expects power but is not getting it so it goes into something like a limp mode. I could be way off base here but that's how the car seems to operate. Now when I used autostick when cruising with the dead supercharger my car came to life and accelerated briskly but not as powerfully as it did with a functioning supercharger.

The 6 will accelerate quicker with autostick unless you've trained your transmission to downshift as aggressively. Literally the only way to do this is to do the reset procedure and then drive like a maniac. The transmission will learn to downshift like crazy everytime your gas pedal is depressed ever so slightly.

You'll know when you have a supercharger clutch/IC pump failure. There is no mistaking the utter lack of power.

By the way, the 6 is my first auto transmission since high school 30 years ago so I've pretty much had to relearn how an auto works myself - especially with all the electronic controls and extra gears. I like it and don't miss a manual at all in my 6.

Brent,

if you stomp the gas under 2.500 rpm, the SC KICKS IN on the 32AMG-Engine!! Above 3.000 rpm the SC is always on, even if you feather the gas- pedal.

Kind Regards
Bruno

got back from the dealer test results were code p0111
they ordered a .. air temp sensor...
part # 5080343-aa
tech reports the sc was ok .. i hope so
the tech thought the srt-6 had a rev limiter and shut of at 96 mph.

i told him the will go way past 96 mph....

What they don't realize is that the reason the intake air temp sensor reads high, is because the little water pump is dead. They will replace that sensor and you will still have your problem.

Tell them that you earned your wing for being an angel at Christmas, like Clarence in "It's a Wonderful Life." And with some of these guys, they will probably believe it!

And where did you get that custom Alcantara seating anyway?

Exactly...

And, MAXXM, that is pretty funny! Needless to say, I didn't go back to that dealer.

If the pump is not hard to get to simply start the car and put your hand on the pump, if you do not feel it pumping then it is not working. I assume it runs all the time while the car is running, that is how it works on my car.
