Default What is this...?

If you are facing the engine bay, on the right hand side there is a little Motor / pump fitted on a bracket with a rubber mount. It seems to pulse only when the gearbox is in "drive".
what is it ?
and what does it do ?

Cheers,
Si

You are in England correct ? If so, is it mounted to the inside of the wheel well on what would be your passenger side ? Does it look like this ?

Good guess, that's the Air injection pump.....it's not that. The one I am on about is much smaller and mounted further back on the inner wing and on the top of it. It fits on a small metal bracket and is mounted by a rubber bush. It also has a small pipe that joins to a "T" piece so would appear to be a pump of some sort. When the car is in "Park" with the engine running it does nothing but when you put the car in "Drive" (with the handbrake securley ON, so it doesn't run away) then you can feel it "pulsing".

Simon
I know the one you mean. Confused me as well (See attached). At first I thought this must be the IC pump but that appears to be in the wheel arch; unless they shifted it because of the failures?

simon-srt6, the part you are referring to is the intercooler pump.

I would love to agree but, if you look at the picture above from AndyG you will see the part I am on about. It is just behind the suspension strutt and in front of the Fuse box, on the right hand side. It looks smaller than the IC pump you posted above and made of Plastic.

As my car it at the dealsership for a few days I woult be able to post a photo for the time being (got a 300C CRD as a loaner, for a diesel it's not bad) but, if you look at the picture above from AndyG you will see the part I am on about. It is just behind the suspension strutt and in front of the Fuse box, on the right hand side. It looks smaller than the IC pump posted above and made of Plastic. It aalos appears to bave a "blue" bit at the bottom in the picture above. Maybe that wil help you identify what I mean.
Cheers,

Si

The file is not for the XFire it's just to give you a rough idea so I wouldn't go playing around with it.

OK

Now I am officially confused. In my pic I raised the brightness on the part I thought Simon was talking about but I think I got this wrong. HOWEVER from other replies the part I highlighted may be the IC pump. Now here's the rub: from other threads on this forum and on the MB forum the IC pump is in the passenger side front wheel well http://www.benzworld.org/forums/atta...-ic-pump-4.jpg (you may need to register to view this)

See also the same thread for access to the IC pump : http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170...placement.html

Sooooo WTF isit? HAs the IC pump been moved for all Xfire SRT's; or only later models; or is the offending item a supercharged chocolate fountain pump?

I await enlightenment with baited breath

The thing you highlighted is the air injection pump which is also part of the emissions system. I think where the confusion came in, is cars from England have the drivers side on the right side which on most cars the passenger side is on the right side. So not to get confused, if you're sitting in the car the IC pump is on the the right side down near the fog lamp like it shows in the pic from benzworld.org. It should be in the same place know matter what side the drivers side is on. I hope it helps clear up the confusion.

Thanks for the help. If fuel vapours are going through it, I won't touch it . I was hoping it would be something more exciting .

I noticed in one picture above that the Air injection pump was silver, mine is Black.......probably means nothing

My SRT is still in it's service having 3 coils packs replaced. I had noticed alot of oil over my rocker cover on one side and my idle had become a little lumpy, so they are replacing them due to contamination (under warranty )

I have now joined the ranks of the enlightened

Has anyone tried to meddle with the emission system? I remember in the mid nineties Porsche put a belt driven air pump on to meet the changing EU emission standards. Wily Porsche owners used to disconnect the belt and boost the BHP by about 20.

Just a thought...

Yeah, yeah I know it's to save the planet but I'll fart in a jar for the next month as a carbon offset

(Methane is 30 times more damaging than CO2 as a greenhouse gas. No I didn't make it up)

What I'd like to know is with 4 cats and all the emissions crap on the srt, how do the chrome exhaust tips get so dirty you clean them one day and they're black again the next day.
