Warm weather reveals a problem
Warm weather reveals a problem
Yesterday was so beautiful here in not-so-sunny Pennsylvania that I got my SRT out of it's car jacket to have a spin around the block (helps reduce the tire flat spotting).
Once I pulled it out, I noticed a puddle of transmission fluid (dark red) under the car near the passenger front wheel. Darn thing had dripped right on one of my dessicant bags too!
I cleaned it up, and put the car away again. But what do you guy recommend, getting fixed now or waiting until spring? Will it hurt anything, besides my dessicant bags to leave it zipped up and leaking fluid?
The difference to me, is that right now the car is uninsured (for storage) and I'd like to take it to a five star dealer - the closest is about a 1/2 hour drive. There's a Chrysler dealer right here in town, but they don't know much about Crossfires. When I asked if they had an SRT-6 certified mechanic, they said one of the guys went to Crossfire school back in 2004.

Re: Warm weather reveals a problem
See this recent thread. This seems to be a known problem and a TSB and may not be difficult to fix. Only one day should be sufficient if planned with the dealer, so a temporary reinstatement of insurance for just that one day might be enough. Good luck.
Re: Warm weather reveals a problem
Thanks Max. I knew about the TSB. I guess I just wasn't really clear about my question.
I'm curious if the tranny fluid it leaks out will have any negative effects on my car while it is zipped up in a car jacket for the next 2 months.
I think I will go out and close the windows of my car (they're cracked now) so that the interior doesn't smell like a transmission.

Re: Warm weather reveals a problem
It took less than an hour to have mine fixed - but it took 1 day to diagnose it (even though I provided the TSB), 2 days to get the part, 2 days for them to let me know it was done AFTER it was completed (even though i requested that I was notified once it was diagnosed so I could pick the car up and put it back in the garage so it didn't get rained on), and another hour waiting for them to get the paperwork figured out once I got there to pick it up.
God I love dealers!

I seem to remember my Dad collecting on tools stolen out of his car while it was in his garage but that was in the neighborhood of 25 years ago.
