Got the transmission puddle...
Got the transmission puddle...
The transmission started to leak on the SRT in the last few days. I hadn't driven it in about a week, pulled it out last night just thinking it would have a puddle and sure enough - trans fluid on the ground!
The car has 3048 miles
Question - has anyone fixed this themselves? I hear it is just an o-ring, but what all is involved in the replacement? If it is cheap I'd much rather do it myself then take it to the dealer...

Re: Got the transmission puddle...
I apologize in advance for my lack of technical jargon in this area. The dealer fixed mine a few weeks ago, and it only took about 30 minutes. He said it's a problem on just about every Chrysler made since 2002. In fact, another guy was waiting for his 300 while I was there, and he had the same exact problem. It has something to do with a 13 pin connector or something or another and an O ring. Most all of these should be covered under warranty, and I'd let Chrysler do it (especially if they have a Crossfire tech). The dealership I went to has two of them (Crossfire techs that is), and they are awesome. In correcting the O ring problem, they found that one of the front calipers was missing a spring that holds the caliper to the rotor when the brakes are engaged. He said it was very dangerous and kept the car until he could get the part and replace it. It's very surprising that it came from the factory like this...the car had 13 miles on it when I purchased it back in June.

Here is the TSB. I would do it myself. I will if I get one.

Re: Got the transmission puddle...
Interesting timing on this thread. I had to take the SRT6 in for a replacement panel in the hatch area (they broke it fixing a rattle). Noticed 2 days ago there was a few drops of transmission fluid on the garage floor, not much but some just the same. They fixed it just this morning. This is 3 years and 13K miles later.

Re: Got the transmission puddle...
I just had my whole connector replaced yesterday... same deal... left it for a few days while I was on a hunting trip... came back and there was a puddle... the dealer had the part in stock... luckily I checked on the fluid before I had to bring it in and they had it there by the time I had my appointment... but the tech said they have to use a scan gauge to measure the fluid level to know how much to put back in there... he said exactly how they do it but I forgot I just remember thinking well I don't have the tools to do that... so I don't know about doing it yourself as far as putting the right amount of fluid back in...... 4400 miles on it....... later
Re: Got the transmission puddle...
I had this on my first Crossfire. The car began dropping to neutral on hard runs at high speeds. Didnt know what the problem was and had to drive 2 hours to the closest Crossfire certified dealership. I noticed the puddle on my SRT6 days after I put it away for winter with 6000 miles. Since the problem affects other Chrysler vehicles and is not the actual transmission, I assume you dont need a Crossfire tech for such a simple repair. I'll take it to my local Chrysler dealership in spring and hope they dont turn me away just because its a Crossfire.
Re: Got the transmission puddle...
when this happened to mine at about 4k I took it to the dealer - GOT A FREE RENT-A-CAR which we are entitled as long as we have made an appointment, and my car was even ready the same day 4 hours later, but I kept the rent a car until the next day at no charge
