Need Proof of AMG Engine - For a Bet
Need Proof of AMG Engine - For a Bet
Went to dealer to drop off car, and was talking about the amg engine in the srt-6. The service advisor is a younger guy about my age (23), he basically said I was full of it. I came on the forum and asked you guys about it, and you confirmed that it did in fact have the amg engine. I went back in and told him again, that he was wrong. He then said he was so sure I was wrong that if I could bring in proof when I pick up my car he would give me a voucher for a free full service oil change. anybody know where I can get proof?
Re: Need Proof of AMG Engine - For a Bet
From car and Driver:
"Shorn of its decorative plastic sombrero, this Mercedes engine would look more familiar. It rolls out of the AMG handicraft shop in Affalterbach, Germany, and previously found work in the SLK32 AMG and C32 AMG. Both of those models have since gone to V-8s, and Mercedes has developed a new 268-hp, twin-cam, four-valve naturally aspirated V-6 for its 2005 SLK350 (C/D, June 2004). So the Crossfire SRT-6 is the last customer of a very nice hand-me-down."

Also Road & Track:
"So, yes, the Crossfire uses a whole lotta Daimler. What you're looking at is basically a heavily reengineered previous-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK platform with a hand-built, AMG-tuned, supercharged 3.2-liter V-6. Not that there's anything wrong with that..."

See Automobile Magazine :
Also see AutoWeek (June 21, 2004): "The 18-valve V6 is straight out of the AMG version of the previous SLK. Why reinvent the wheel, was SRT's logic. Hence we get the same helical supercharger from IHI."
And this from Motor Trend (August 2004): The "amped-up version of the Crossfire called SRT-6, ... employs the supercharged V-6 out of the old SLK32 AMG."
Sure is time for that free oil change...
"The SRT-6 shares an awful lot in common with the outgoing SLK32 AMG, other than just the engine and gearbox. The dual control arm front and multilink rear suspension are virtually identical, although they are tuned in this application, with firmer damping and much stiffer spring rates. (They have gone up from 303 pounds per inch front and 337 pounds per inch rear to 451 lb/in and 480 lb/in respectively on the coupe.) The brakes, too, have come in for attention, with vented discs all around (the stock car has solid rear rotors), bigger front discs, and dual piston calipers in place of single-piston items."

As others have said, the blower and at least one of the brackets are stamped as well.

U should probably make sure that this idiots mechanics are not as stupid as he is.... You might wind up with a lot less oil and the wrong oil in your car! It might be time to find a different dealer who actually knows about the cars they are servicing/selling.
