Default Koni Is The Answer

When I first got my SRT, I was disappointed with how harsh the ride was when going over bumps and especially railroad tracks. Some suggested that you just have to put up with it, "after all it is a sports car". I have driven a lot of sports cars and know the ride does not have to be that way. Finally, I broke down and bought some Koni's. I left the springs since I am satisfied with their performance.

The difference has been immediate and remarkable. The Koni's really make a difference. Performance on a tight road course is as good as it was, if not better. They are expensive but worth.

I'm dissatisfied with the stock shocks and springs in the srt6. Did the konis ride better and what setting did you feel the best ride?
I've already changed my rear springs to stock LTDs and it helps but I still feel the shock. I will try the front ones next and then shocks, but, i'm not happy with the stock LTD shock either.

Even the limited has its harsh moments so I bought the Koni's too and they're great! And sense they're adjustable you can really control the ride comfort and the handling in a snap. If I every buy an SRT this will be the first thing done... I don't know how you guy/gals ride without them.

I wonder how they would ride/handle with some eibachs? Stock 4x4 look is not the coolest. Do these have adjustable perch heights? My neuspeed Konis on my civic had 5 different heights, that is why I ask.

I have my Koni's on 1 for now but will probably change it in the future. If you're Rallying you might want it stiffer.

There are a number of people on here that have changed their shocks to Eibach's. I don't have experience with those but don't feel the need right now to modify any more of the suspension (Yet!)

The Koni's are a little pricey but they make the SRT a comfortable car with out sacrificing the handling.

There definitely less harsh. Before, when I went over tracks, etc., it would hit them like the shocks were welded down (BLAM). At the same time, I got a snapping motion that almost hurt your back.

You can still tell you're riding in a high performance car but the snapping motion is gone completely. It no longer feels like your smashing your way thru the tracks. In fact, (I am probably dreaming about this one) but it seems to me the car is more comfortable in all phases of driving.

Anyone try Bilstein? I had major handling issues with a car once and tried everything. It wasn't until i tried Bilsteins did I cure the problems. They adjust while you are driving.

$632.80 at Shox.com. That is the best price I could find. Be careful when you compare - this is four shocks, some places list it by shock and don't say anything until you ask them.

Neeedswings - I guess I won't buy any Xfire stuff until I talk to you. Are you still working on a SS exhaust system?

When I first trimmed the stock SRT springs it would ride like that in the rear. Then Dan told me about the bumpers in the rear shocks (I did not remove the shocks when doing the trim, just removed the bottom bolt).

I went back and swapped them both out with a set small black bumpers I had. This made ride way too soft with too much body roll when driving aggressive.

I then trimmed about a 1/3 off of the stock bumpers and re-installed. The ride now is perfect, not jarring, but not to soft. Plenty of give on RR tracks, dips and those California cement freeways.

I think it rides better now then when it was new.

It's a cheap alternative ($0.00) you can try before spending any money. Not sure if the limited has this bumper in the shock.

Stop by Dan and I'll take you for a spin.

Here is a pic - it's hard to see the black bumper on the rod but it's there.

Limited has the same thing... only the bump stop(?) it tapered and I think it's a little bit longer than the SRT.

Great information!

After cutting my springs the ride felt good except in the rear when I hit bumps. I also noticed that when going slowly over a speed bump the front goes over nice and the rear would really kick hard. I knew it was hitting the bump stops. I will take apart this weeked and remove about a third?

I'm also anxious to hear about anyone's progress in this regard. On these forums I've read about swapping the springs from the SRT-6 for either the limited springs or the Eibachs - but at the same time, they weren't switching the shocks. Either way, the authors mentioned improvement, but they weren't jumping up and down about it.

If the other half of the change should be the shocks, whether Koni's or Bilsteins - whatever, I'd sure like to hear about it. I've read the same things on the forum about the "sports car ride", etc. So if it can be made a little easier on the bod it would be a welcome change.

Question: Who has changed BOTH their springs and shocks? What did you change from and to, and please tell us about the quality of the ride after doing so?

i had both; the eibach & koni's...

i added the koni's because i prefer a crisp rebound when driving over bumps or dips in the roadway. the combo is a complimenting set-up. the ride quality is near factory but when pressed the suspension really begins to shine.

Andrew, I'm not sure what to make of a "crisp rebound." What I'm looking for is a less jarring ride when traversing bumps, etc. during everyday driving. An alternate description might be a smoother ride. Do the changes you made make a positive change in that way?
