Almost had one, here's the story.
Almost had one, here's the story.
I had brought a SRT-6 on eBay for 17,900 on October 8, 2007, everybody told me it was a great deal. Had arranged financing through the dealership and put a thousand down. I was going to fly up to Erie PA., where the dealership is located, to drive it back to Texas. I was going to leave on a Saturday and take the scenic route back over several days. The dealership called me the Friday before and said that a technician had spilled a leather cleaning solution on to the center console and had burn out the Auto stick module. They could not have the car fixed by Saturday because they would not have the part in on time, and to wait to fly up, they would call me on Monday with an update. I told them that the tickets were non-refundable and the dealership said they would, “take care of me on the airfare.” So alright, I waited for Monday, no call. Called them on Tuesday and they said that the transmission was not working properly, “it would shutter.” The dealership said they would call when it was fixed. I waited, then called them back on the following Monday, still not working. I talked to the General Manager, Brent, he said that for being patient they would gave me new tires and make sure the car was perfect for my road trip back to Texas.
Well great, the car was going to be perfect and a new set of tire too boot, was a little happier, but still no car. After a few more days I called the Internet sale manager cell phone twice, he told me he always has it on him, could not reach him. Then I checked my checking account online, and the dealership give the grand back and did even call me. Now, it’s hard to get money back from car dealers, right. Called the GM, Brent was not available, and then Mike, he was the finance guy, he told me that he was out of the loop, but would find out what’s going on and would call me back. About an hour later he called and said that the dealership could fix the car, they had burned out three modules trying to fix it, and had their best guys on it. Mike also mentions that they brought the car from an auction and would get their money back, because it was guaranteed. So I was not getting the car.
Now during all this I had talked to three people at the dealership; the Internet sales manager, the finance guy, and the GM. During one of my calls to the dealership, prior to the Friday before I was going to leave, the Internet sale manager had mention that a woman had come into the dealership and offered low twenties for the car. The Internet sales manager said that I was alright because I had put down a thousand on the deal. Ok, I was not too worried. I had put down a thousand, I was good, right. I guess not.
All I can do now is carfax or Autocheck the VIN to see if it has been registered under a new owner. If so, I can leave a negative feedback, with a note to email me for the whole story. I’m still in touch with the dealership, they said they would make me a deal on other crossfires, but they do not have any SRTs. I told them that I was interested and to send me pictures and prices, but I just want an SRT. I have not asked the dealership about refunding the airfare yet that is why I’m keeping them on good terms. If they are tell me the truth, then I will just be disappointed, but if the car has a new owner. I will not be happy, to understate it. If anyone has any thoughts or comment please post. Also sorry for the long post, I wanted a complete picture. The dealership could be telling the truth.

You may find it has a new owner no matter what. The story could be true and they sent the car back just for someone else to buy. It will not just vanish.
I was wondering how the heck they could or would sell the car at that price. Maybe it had something to do with the issues it has but you would think they would have it worked on by a shop that knows what they are doing.
Crossfires and Erie in the winter don't mix so maybe that was part of the pricing as well. Glad to see you didn't get ripped off with the car but for them not to call back is a bad sign. I would not deal with them at all. How would you have any confidence in them. Their integrity has gone down the drain and you could be stuck with another car that is nothing but trouble. Realizing you would never go back to them after the sale would not help ease my mind that the car you could buy from them could be a lemon law nightmare.

Re: Almost had one, here's the story.
It sounds to me like someone offered them more money, and they jumped on it.
The same thing happened to me when I tried to buy one in Austin, Aero Blue SRT Coupe, with 500 miles, from Maxwell in Taylor/Hutto.
I went up there the day before the Ebay auction ended. I told them I would call my insurance the next morning to verify that it wasn't going to be too expensive. I arranged my insurance, arranged my financing, and called to make a deposit over the phone to end the ebay auction.
All of the sudden, no one I dealt with was interested in talking to me. They wouldn't pick up their cell phone, answer emails, or answer their receptionist's page.
The ebay auction ended for a few dollars more than I offered...and now they got to deal with the shipping headache. Their loss.
BUT, I drove 90 miles 1-way to go look at the car...so I was a little irritated when they sold it out from under me.
I ended up going to Bonham Chrysler the following weekend and buying my SRT.

I believe this is one of the two I was considering until they pissed me off to a point that I took a detour on my way up there and purchased mine in Dallas. Yours was a better deal but the way they treated the whole thing over the phone was absurd.
Glad you are having good luck with it.

Bonham, in general, was a horrible experience over the phone and in person. The salesman was good, the rest was pathetic. We wont get into that again.
Maxwell CDJ, on the other hand, just flat ignored me until their ebay auction ended in hopes that they could fetch more than my offer...and they would've been better off selling it to me, someone local (less hassle). It sold on ebay for $10 more than I offered. I'm glad I didn't get that car though, it shook horribly when at speed (needed tires) and it had a ding in it.
Bonham had 30+ SRT's when I got mine, and I picked the cleanest one I could find in the color I wanted.
The car itself, however, has been great - I've got the foggy headlights like 99% of these cars (actually look more like small stress cracks), and I'm having a hard start issue which I hear is a secondary fuel pump issue. Otherwise, it has been great. I definitely wouldn't have bought from Bonham if I didn't almost 'have to'.
Randy, Did you see the car located in Round Rock on Auto Trader? It is a good price - SRT, you may search for it. I think it was 21,995 or something along those lines. There was one for 18995 at one point.

Re: Almost had one, here's the story.
I almost went to Bonham but you guys scared me off. I have to say I was real happy with Suburban Chrysler in Mn. John Sands was straight foward. The issues with the car were a scratch by the wing which I still can't figure out how it polished out, and a mark on the inside door panel from tape which won't come off. John called the regional rep after I stated I wanted it taken care of and got approval for a brand new door panel.
Randy TC, best bet is put this situation behind you and actively start searching for another one. As winter approaches most Dealers will push harder to get rid of them because they have loans on them, and the longer they pay for them the less profit they make. Maybe it was a blessing in desguise, nobody wants to spend the money and then have problems.

$21,500 is still a STEAL on these cars...great car for the money.
There will be more for a good price, but not sure that $17.9k with low miles will be easy to find. I hope you do though so we can add another TX Owner.

Re: Almost had one, here's the story.
ShawnQ,
Looks like you have the same problems I've gotten fixed on mine. Now I have the tranny leak to get fixed. Keep an eye out for it. Maybe it's a trend for the inventory reduction cars. That's kind of why I'm hesitant to have mods done. I'm not sure if anything else is going to go out and the dealer may try to blame the mods. I even had the glue on the door panel.
