SRT Dyno Stock Vs. SL55 Y-Pipe
Re: SRT Dyno Stock Vs. SL55 Y-Pipe
Got my SL55 intake kipt last night (Y pipe and two inlet pipes).
I have had a quick look and the pipes are far less restrictive than the SRT pipes and are even reinforces with metal rings to stop them collapsing. The Y pipe looks big too. Although I was supprise that the SRT Y pipe is bigger than I first thought when I had a closer look.
The SL55 pipes appear a little short too by about 20mm each side. I was thinking of sourcing a 20mm aluminium tube (ring) x 2.5 inches diameter and a short lenght of 2.5 inch, thick walled rubber tubing and use the "ring" inside the 2.5 inch rubber tube as something to "clamp" the SL55 pipe to the 2.5 inch pipe with a "jubilee clip". I can then use another jubille clip to secure the 2.5inch tube to the standard air box.
My other thought was to leave the "Stock" Y pipe in place and see if I can adapt the SL55 intake pipes to fit as the standards pipes narrow so much it has to be the major source of restricted flow in my opinion.
Has anyone else tried uprating just the inlet pipes yet ? I did this mod on a N/A Clio Cup (172 BHP) after running with a K&N replacement filter and was suprised how much better and responsive the car was with this mod. Not to mention a small increase in induction noise as the standard intake pipe between the air filter and thottle body was also quite restrictive on the Clio Cup.

I may have sourced the 3" to 2.5" 6mm thick pipe to put on the air box to make the SL55 pipe fit, but if it is too short, I still need to souce a 20mm wide stainless Steel or aluminium "ring" that fits inside the 2.5" pipe so I can clamp the SL55 pipe to it.
The engine breather pipe looks like it will pulg straight back on to the SL55 pipe without modifying (fingers crossed)
