SL55 Y-Pipe Installed
Re: SL55 Y-Pipe Installed
For anyone considering the addition of a better inlet, I would suggest that you try this no cost test.
I removed the wye pipe and made a short run around the area, came home and cut a check for the needswings inlet. With 'no restriction' without the wye AS A TEST FOR A SHORT TIME you will get the wooly bully feel of what is available by reducing the inlet restriction.
My dyno and 60 times are testament to the better breathing I now have with the needwsings, gasket matching of intake and heads, and the muffler delete. It is an warm air engine and the more air that you can heat the more horsepower youll get. Woody

Could you take a few pic's of the 90 deg piece that goes thru the radiator opening? Remove your grill and filter and post a few pics. Can you take a measurement of the ID for this piece.
Something like this

I was interested in this until I saw these dyno results on the MB site...Can anyone explain the hp loss with this mod?

Re: SL55 Y-Pipe Installed
Standing waves due to a resonance issue? Velocity versus dimensions allowing a reversion effect to stifle the incoming air mass is my thought. Woody YOu know the old pipe organ effect length and diameter matter...
BTW Rob has revised the inlet design and is 3" on the passenger side, 2.5 or 2.75 on the driver side, ask him direct or he may come on and clarify the issue. He has recreated my "ebay elbows and water bed vinyl glued wye" in silicone to make a full sized cross section WYE assembly.

Re: SL55 Y-Pipe Installed
Here you go, Mercedes Benz AMG part# A 113 094 01 03. The inside diameter is 3 inches. This will not fit directly onto the stock air boxes (where the filters are located), they need to be reduced in size.
