Default Control over 100 shaky

Went up to Ocala this weekend for a Mopar GTG at Don Garlits's museum and drove Ashley's SRT. Lots of great old cars a few nice new ones. I left Miami at 9:30 am drove 300 miles to Ocala using the Turnpike and arrived at 1:30 pm. I made a couple of stops so I made pretty good time. Ran into a couple of forum member and a couple of Toledo friends I grew up with. Always good to see friends.

On the way back I went the other route down I 75 and across Alligator Alley. I had been cruising around 85-90 most of the way and tailed a few going 100 plus. I felt better being the shadow rather then the pigeon. Well, about 5 minutes on the Alley a new 350Z went by me going 115-120. I tailed him most of the way (about 70 miles across the Alley), but unlike my car, my daughter's car was really tough to handle over 115. It was jumping everytime I hit a bump, so I had to keep it down under 110. With my SRT, never a question or issue at high speeds. it is very tight and the suspension is stronger then Ashley's SRT.

I was using her car this past week and would bottom out over a few bumps that my SRT handled w/o any problem. I am beginning to wonder if her suspension was changed by the previous owner and maybe they put non SRT shocks or springs on it as a replacement!

A question before I call the dealer. Is the suspension covered under the 3 yr/36,000 miles? Or is this considered normal wear and tear?

Why would my car be so much tighter then Ashley's? Suggestions welcome.

My SRT has 18K hers has 20K.

Fwiw, I have an 04 with 43k and it's very stable at 140+. You might want to get it to a shop to be checked out. Something is not right.

Hasn't her SRT6 been wrecked once (or twice)?
That can severely change the way a car drives and handles.

Get the alignment checked out.

With four wheel IRS that's really critical.

Very slight changes in alignment settings can make a big difference, especially front and rear toe in/out

Just ask any auto-Xer...

Tires and Alignment, you have the same questions I had prior to seeing the steel belts on the rears!

Yep, four wheel alignment check, and verify the part numbers on the shocks/struts and springs. Also make sure the rims are balanced and true.

I was hitting 135mph on California speedway last March and it felt like it was on rails.

Cheers!

Randy maybe the wheels are out of balance possibly Ashley lost 1 of the balancing weights off of a wheel.

Is that the SRT with the Lambo doors? Does Ashley drive her car with the doors opened? The reason I'm asking is that I heard it can compromise the integrity of the unibody....flexing and bending

It was hit before I purchased it in the front drivers wheel area. I know the rim and fender were replaced before I got it. I put new bridgestone tires on it and had it aligned. It is very smooth and straight as an arrow when you take your hands off the wheel, but the suspension seems soft compared to mine. It will bottom out where mine won't. I'm thinking maybe the suspension or shocks were changed.

I have to take both SRT's to the dealer to get the heated seats fixed so I will have them check the suspension.

That is an interesting thought. The car is very smooth at 120, but when you hit any change in the pavement it jumps a bit left or right. May think about having doors put back to stock. I will have the suspension checked first.

As also suggested by others, have the alignment checked. If anything is bent it will show up on four wheel alignment. Keep us posted on the outcome.
