Talking WOW, where do I start?

Grettings from a newbie. I must be getting brave in my old age I just bought a new SRT sight unseen. I tested a few used crossfires (non SRT) and really liked the car and then I was on a mission to find an SRT.

Low and behold there was a dealer in California that put one on ebay and let it go for 22K, boy am I stoked! (hopefully not scammed).

My questions are 1) Why does the market for these apparently stunning cars seems to be so soft? and 2) Can you guys tell me anything I should know or look at before I do the inspection on Friday?

Thanks for any guidence and advice. I look forward to being a contributing member here!

Thanks,
Jack

1. the car has no cargo room or passenger room, so no one wants it.

2. the suspention on srt6 models is very harsh compared to the Limited.

3. it's a Chrysler, or so thats what eveyone thinks.

4. everyone has been brainwashed to think the 350Z is the best sports car on the market.

Some of the Best cars in History are often the most overlooked and misunderstood. Basically I think it didn't do well because of its original price. It cost thousands more than an SRT-8 300C and was is the size of a Miata. People just couldn't justify paying $50,000 for a small Chrysler, or any Chrysler for that matter. Telling people that its a rebaded AMG Benz isn't a very effective marketing ploy...

The suspension is stiffer than a Limited, but it isn't too bad. I drive mine everyday and its pleasantly firm. Very controlled.

Mechanically, they are fairly trouble free. The most common problem is the Intercooler Pump. They go all the time, but they are cheap and easy to replace once it's out of warranty. I would suggest getting the Chrysler Max Care Extended Warranty. The little things are what have tendancy to be troublesome. Things like the seat heaters, AC Controls, Central Locking etc. The headlights have a tendancy to "Delaminate" or haze from the sun and weather. A dealer should be able to replace them under warranty, just don't be surprised if your "new" Crossfire has messed up Headlight lenses, as it probably will.

Overall, they are great cars, enjoy!

Thanks NeverEnough. I will call Chrysler about the extended warranty. The seller offered an AUL program, but I have never purchased an extended warranty before, but I think this is the car to do it with. Any idea what that plan cost you? And can you go to any dealer or just 5 star?

Thanks again.

Sidez,

I gather from your signiture that there were only 2016 SRT Coupes ever made? If so that is a pretty exclusive car.

Look in the Crossfire Coupe General section at the top of the forum. There is thread rated 5 stars that discusses the Max Care Warranty in detail. You can buy the warranty for as little as $1,185 for 6 years/70,000 miles. I posted the links to the purchase sites.

Thanks! I called Chrysler Extended warranty and they said the car had been placed in service in 2004 prior to the invoice date, but when I called Chrysler customer service, the stated the car hadn't been placed in service yet. The window sticker shows 3/36 warranty but car fax showed 3/36, 7/70 etc. Any idea which is correct? I saw another post that said the SRTs only came with 3/36.

The SRTs did not come with the 7/70 Powertrain. Only the Limiteds and Base came with that. Its impossible for the in service date to be before the invoice date. The invoice is generated before the car is even built. What could they have put into service? The Steering wheel.?

If the dealer you are getting it from hasn't put in service, I'd be surprised. I think part of the incentive money they received on these cars relied on them being activated. I would be willing to bet the warranty start date has come and gone, but you should still have plenty of it left.

At least 7 years from the original in-service date, possibly 8 years, I can't remember. I know the mileage limit is 100,000 miles. The 7/100,000 is a good way to go if you plan on driving it ALOT. I know the 6/70,000 can be had for $1,185. I would guess the 7/100 could be had in the $1,800 range or less.

All 2005 crossfire had a 3/36,000 btb and 7/70,000 drivetrain factory warrenty.

What dealer did you buy this car from, Carmax?

SRT-6s DO NOT have 7/70 powertrain. I can promise you that. I have my VIP Summary Report sitting on my desk right here. The SRT-6 Owner's Manual also states it clearly. The only SRT vehicles that ever had the 7/70 were the 2003 and EARLY (built before 12/2003) 2004 SRT-4 Neons. Chrysler doesn't do the powertrain warranty thing on any SRT, Commercial or Sprinter Vehicles.

CaptJack,

Do yourself a favor and contact Mike at http://www.Chrsylerservicecontracts.com
They are a Chrysler dealer that basically set up their own online site to sell just contracts. I believe TodK64 on OUR website does the same thing, you may want to contact him also.

Mike will run your vin #, see what warranty the car has (if any), and tell you what it is elligible for.

He is also as cheap or cheaper than anyone I've found. DO NOT BUY your contract from your dealer!! They will likely try to gouge you!

One thing I would recommend - make your dealer certify the car. If the SRT6 is Chrysler Certified (it is usually between $150-300 tops), it is then given a 8/80 Powertrain warranty. Certification basically does an inspection, should change the oil, replace wiper blades if needed, inspect tires and brakes, etc. Usually, they need wipers and oil change and nothing more. Mine cost me $150 to get it done.

So, a certified SRT has a 3/36 Bumper to Bumper, add the certification and you can get the 8/80 Powertrain.

For $1200, you can 'WRAP' that 8/80 Powertrain, and pick up the 8/80 Chrysler MaxCare warranty (similar to bumper-bumper, 5007 parts). This is the route I took.

Mike also told me that if you have a 'certified' car, you forego the added 'Specialty Class II' charge of $275.00 or whatever it is when buying an extended service plan...You will see this add on the service contracts website.

All of these warranties start the same day your car was 'in service'. 95% of the remaining SRT's were 'In Service' in February 07.

Hope this helps some.

I have the 7/100,000 and it actually included compensation for hotel and car rental (say if I was on vacation and had to stay somewhere to wait for a part).

I don't think my IC pump went out, but I replaced it with the Johnson CM-30 pump anyway. No problem with it and I track the car from time to time (road courses, no straight line stuff for me).

well you will enjoy the crossfire or the srt-6, i bought mine with 170 miles @ $23,000.
the dealer states they punched it to get the chrysler incentives,
it is like the car was registered but was not, this way the dealer get the discounts from chrysler on the car.
my car was never titled ... i guess having a 2005 sitting around an they wanted to get rid of it.
now the price of a limited crossfire is $29,000 ... here where i live.

warranty mine was 3/36,000 started the day i bought it ... so the years will get me first
the dealer wanted $2,000 for a 7/70 warranty ...

good luck and enjoy the mercedes.

I purchased 7/70 preferred care program for my SRT. At a cost of $2,633. I'm covered till 2013 or 70,000! This includes seals and gaskets...I bought the car brand new, so maybe that makes a difference...

SRT6-Man, I'm not sure exactly which warranty you got...but you may be able to save yourself a grand or a little more if you'd like.

I almost paid $2800 (dealer's price) for the same warranty that I recently bought for $1200 through the online site. These dealers like to gouge you.

If you're interested, contact one of the websites listed above. You can easily cancel your warranty, get a refund check (if you've only had it a few months it will likely be a full rebate or 99%), and then re-purchase the same one at a lot less money.

Again, you may have purchased a different warranty than myself so it may not pertain to you. But, if you're interested in getting a little money back, you may look into it.
