I have seen those around. I remember the first time seeing one on the street I was thinking... Pontiac has finally done something right. Of course the 6.0 model is by far the most attractive in terms of styling. Very "american muscle" with the bulging hood, hood scoop, and grill. Much more room to move around in I can tell from your pics and the interior looks nice. My only thought about the GTO is that although a good looking car and great performance for the price, sooner than later you will see more of them on the road and that exclusivity will wear off, it is a Pontiac after all. That doesn't bother some, but I know the Crossfire will always remain unique and a rarity on the road.

 

I like the hood scoops.

 

i always liked the interior of the new GTO, done very very well, the seats especially ... the engine is of course the icing on the cake being a LS ... the only thing i don't like is the rear wheel tubs, should have been larger with bumped out fenders to allow the proper barrel sized tires in the back.

just keep it in the straight and she'll do fine but if ye take any turns let us know what the next car is going to be i kid i kid ...

best of luck with it ... its loads safer than the SRT-4 (why we sold ours) and should get better gas mileage while giving you the aftermarket you desire and room for four ... perhaps you'll get a SRT-6 as a weekend car one day in the future.

 

while the gto with all of its power would be a blast (for a while)... the srt is more of a polished vehicle... in many ways. but a personal preference.

i always thought the gto needed larger & better looking rims to add to its looks.... but another added plus... a back seat.

I'm curious, does anybody know the total # of GTO's, GM imported?
I would think it's fewer than the total # of Crossfires that were shipped over.
I know I can go for days (here in the Cleveland/Akron area) and not see a GTO, but I usually see at least one or two Crossfires everyday.

 

fireamx I don't know the exact number but I am sure there are less GTOs on the road at this point. However once Pontiac sees good sales for an item they can't help but overproduce it, generally speaking. Maybe that won't happen with the GTO, but my bets are there will be plenty of them on the road in a year or two.

 

As far as I know, the GTO was somewhat of a 'flop' at first. A friend of mine got a brand new one for somewhere around the same deep discount that they are giving on new Crossfires. That leads me to believe that they may not be around long, and could end up being exclusive.

As far as Crossfire vs. GTO - I am a fan of any car with decent performance. I happen to like the GTO, although I'm not sure that I would give up my SRT6 for one. Although, I've only had the SRT for a month.

Nice car - hopefully the previous owner didn't beat it up too bad with all those mods.

As different as they may seem, used GTOs and STR6s have a few important things in common. Both are essentially imported performance cars "badge engineered" as American brands. Both were somewhat overpriced when first introduced, promoted poorly and suffered lower than expected sales as a result. Because of the steep initial depreciation and low sales numbers, they have become bargin priced performance cars in the used market and are well on their way to "Cult" status. Both of these cars offer fantastic performance for the money. I'd be willing to bet the long-term value of these cars will be pretty good once supply and demand begins to have it's effect. I always really liked the Holden Monaro (oops I mean GTO).

How come the Aussies and Europeans get all the cool cars while the domestic line-up of the "big three" seems stale and dated by comparison ?

you can thank the lawyers and bean counters for that. they **** everything good up.

 

They were overpriced, there were no options, like sunroof or chrome wheels and the wheels were ugly. The 04' was only a 14.0 sec 1/4 mile car, so performance was also a disappointment. The 04's sold slow because word got out that the new LS-2 400 horse 6.0 engine would soon be available in 05's. GM messed this up as bad as Chrysler did with the Crossfire. GM has nothing to offer me that would make me want to step foot onto their lots. Well except for the C-6 Z06. That's a bad boy!

 

The GTO's I've seen are running 14.5 at the track up here in Minnesota. There heavy cars! As Long as you like it, that's all that matters...

 

Doesn't look anything like my '69 Goat, well maybe the hood scoops a little . I loved my Goat, but then we had the 1970 Energy Crisis in Calif, Gas all the way up to 50 cents/gal, imagine that?

As a previous owner of a GTO, and a current owner of an SRT-6:
A couple of points:

First: The SRT-6 is going to be a collectors item, not even in the too-distant future. The GTO will be somewhat collectible, but not as much.

Second: You mentioned trunk space? The GTO's trunk sucks! The Crossfire has a more use-able trunk.

Third: The best I ever could get outta my GTO was 13.4 in the 1/4 at 107. I'm pretty good at launching, but that car was a beyatch to launch.

Fourth: Yes, you now have a back seat, but it is VERY inaccessible. There is no release for the front seats, it takes like 30 seconds to move the front seats with the power adjustments.

Finally: The SRT-6 handles way better than the GTO. I am still astounded at the way this thing corners.


Not blasting you, but these points didn't make any sense. I loved my goat, one of the best cars Pontiac has turned out in the recent past.

 

Good luck with that. A fellow SCSCC club member had his butt handed to him at our recent auto cross event in his GTSlow. When you get beat by a novice driving a '95 Fleetwood you know there is something wrong. Now you may say it was the driver but he has been racing his highly modified race class 2000 Chevy Camaro for years and knows his way around the track... rest assured he can DRIVE! There is just to much cushy soft ride crap on the GTO to make em handle at all. Believe it or not the front wheels will travel backwards 1" or so when braking! Needless to say he is modifying the suspension big time after that embarrassment. If you wanted 12's well I guess there are lots of choices - for me I've seen a nice Buick GN costing 1/2 that go 10's - easily... than there is the wife's new 2007 Charger Daytona... sweeettt ride! Charger Forum guys are consistently running mid 13's... maybe if the wife lets me drive it I'll see what it can do...

 

A complete step down IMO. The GTO was the biggest flop since the Edsel. It was rushed to market to fill a niche. As many stated, it won't handle anywhere close to the Crossfire. There was a father and son at my SRTTE. The father just got a Charger and the son was tagging along and paid the fee to drive the SRT's. He had a GTO. After we gave him crap like the Cavalier jokes, he keep saying, well, it has LSD, etc. After driving the SRT's, he was going home to sell his Goat! He couldn't believe the differences on the handling and even how they were easier to launch at the drag strip portion. Whatever, you made your decision. But, I wouldn't be surprised if you become disappointed pretty quickly.
