Question Question for former "standard" Xfire owners who are now SRT-6 owners

If you've previously owned a coupe or roadster, then upgraded to a SRT (coupe or roadster)... would you do it again?

I'm currently a happy owner of 2004 coupe, but obviously considering taking the plunge.

Pro's? (besides acceleration ) Cons? (e.g. insurance, finding a dealership that can knowledgeably service the car, etc).

Thanks.

- WingMan

ps: I've been scanning the used car sites (CarMax, AutoTrader, Cars.com, Craigslist, etc), and there are very few SRT coupes listed west of the mid-west, and even fewer rag-tops. Almost none of the "new" SRTs are making their way out here. Strange.

Yes; absolutely. The SRT6 version makes the car as quick as its looks say it should be. I traded an Alabaster '04 (coupe; that's all there were in '04) for my graphite SRT6 coupe over two years ago and definitely would do it again. This time, though, I would probably save lots of money!

I definitely would do it again, Yes! I love the SRT6 & hope to keep it for the rest of my driving years. Faster, Firmer & Sexier!

SF

BTW Just buy one out East & Ship it, it will still be less than buying in California anyways, probably!

Absolutely! I love the standard coupe but the SRT6 is far and above finer and better for my pleasures.

No doubt about it.

Having always driven pickups, I felt I was due a nice sports car so I purchased a 2006 SSB Limited/AutoStick back in March. It was a flawless car that was great to drive; unfortunately I did not know about the "Auction SRT's" that were on the market.

I wanted an SRT when I saw one on the lot back in 05' but the timing was not right. When I was ready to buy this year - used cars were out of the question. My only regret was that I did not buy my SRT first; I could have used the money I lost on the limited - about $4K on pulleys and other AM upgrades.

BTW the price on my SRT was only $600 more then the Limited.

Yes I love my SRT - and though I loved the Sapphire color on the Limited, I see that color now on every new car model so I am glad I got the Aero Blue.

The SRT is a true sports car, with great acceleration and the AutoStick and the suspension handle much better then the Limited.

Go get one before it's to late.

I agree with everyone here. I loved the '04 but am having a blast in the SRT6. I would buy another in a heart beat.

I would do it again as well...but they are VERY different cars. The 04' was a fun car, I would call it fun and “tossable”...the SRT is much more car and can be a handful with its power and in my mind is harder to simply drive around town, but much more fun from about 6/10ths on up. The SRT feels much heavier to me, yet (and obviously) much quicker (I realize that is a little oxymoronic). As much as I don’t think any sports car should have an automatic tranny, the SRT’s automatic (barring a DSG that I drove) is probably the best automatic I have experienced...so kind of a wash because it is incredibly nice to have an auto in stop & go and city traffic. Also, I like the suede seats much better than the 04's smooth leather. Yes, I would do it again and the SRT has to be one of THE top total values on the sports car market right now.

OH YEAH! I thought my '04 coupe was pretty fast and handled great, it would stay right with a new 300 h.p. Mustang GT. But the SRT 6 with the Renntech kit in it will blow the doors off just about any other car on the road, at least around where I live.

I keep thinking about it, but I love the 6-speed on my 2004, and I don't like the fixed wing or the SRT6 rims. So I'm conflicted.

Did you post any kind of review of your car's performance after you went renntech?
...I couldn't find anything and just curious how radical the change...

If you have not driven one, and I don't mean just a short test drive, I can see your conflict. As you know the rims can easily be replaced. The wing, well... but the drive, it is just not your crossfire, 6-speed or not. I'm here to tell you it is really different and fun. I'll always enjoy the regular coupe drive but the SRT6 is just MORE...IMHO.

No I didn't, I really didn't drive it much before the kit and drove it fairly easy for the first 500 or 600 miles. It only had 800 miles on it when I did the install, it now only has 2,230 on the clock. I have a GTECH meter ordered and there's a guy that lives about 5 miles from me with an SRT 6 with no mod's. I've already told him I want to take the two car's out and see how much difference there is between the two. I could tell a big difference after the kit though, it would break the rear tire's loose at any speed in first gear.

?? I like sticks better too, but this autostick is an excellent compromise. Also, the wheels look stunning. Initially, back in 2005, I didn't like how they looked in the photos. They look awesome in person! They look like turbine blades.

They sure do! That's why I decided Not to put on the Chrome Stern ST-1's, that I bought for the Limited, I'm selling them instead.

just traded an '04 up to an '05 SRT-6, and couldn't be happier. Great price, better ride and handling, less rattles, nicer interior and paint, nicer wheels, better rear visibility (fixed spoiler doesn't stick up as far), and of course, more power.

Well alright! Glad to see your still part of the Xfire family. Congrats on your new ride.

I made the change and never looked back.

The only concern is now that I have a low mile SRT, it is painful to rack up miles on it.

I didn't have a problem putting miles on my Limited, but I would like to keep the SRT 'new'.
