Question about gutting cats on SRT?
Question about gutting cats on SRT?
I had a '03 C32 and I had the 2 back cats gutted and then welded back on. Does the SRT have the same setup with 4 cats? I know for me it was a cheap exhaust mod that made the car sound better. Also is anyone running with no cats? If so what did you use to get rid of the check engine light?
Thanks,

Re: Question about gutting cats on SRT?
I am not sure what the c32 exhaust looks like but... the srt exhaust has 2 cats with sensors in the front, than 2 cats without sensors in the middle, an H-Pipe, than a resonator, and than a muffler...
You can remove the resonator for a great improvement in sound and a loss of around 20 pounds... I suggest you try this first and if you are not yet satisfied with the removal of the resonator, you can than either change out the muffler or remove the 2 rear Cats and you will have no problems with check engine light or slow downs or anything like that...
You will NOT pass inspection after removing or gutting the rear cats, if that is not a problem to you I suggest removing them instead of gutting as gutting is never a good process and I never quiet understood it's benefits if there is any, unless u like the clunky broken sound...
What I did is first removed the resonator and noticed a HUGE improvement in sound.. and than a few months later removed the rear cats and it created yet another improvement in sound, but not as great compared to the removal of the resonator... If you are doing this mod for the sole purpose of sound I suggest you first try with just the removed reso and if this is not enough for you than remove the rear cats.. and don't gut anyone...
